Garner used a five-run third inning and held off a late Knightdale rally to earn their first conference win of the season with a 8-4 road win on Tuesday night.

In the opening inning Garner (3-4, 1-2) struck first with a trio of runs. Brandon Tant led off with a single to right and after Taylor Stephens beat out a bunt the Trojans had two on with no outs. Alec Hulmes came to the plate and on the first pitch he saw, the launched the ball over the wall in right for an early 3-0 lead for the men of Troy.

Knightdale (4-2, 2-1) couldn't solve the puzzle that was Will Norris (W 2-2) as the senior went six innings to earn the win for the Trojans.

Still leading by three, Garner got back on the board in the third inning. With one out, Hulmes singled ahead of CJ Schmitt who belted a two-strike pitch over the wall in left for his second homer of the season and a 4-0 Trojan lead.

But, that wasn't all that Garner would get in the third. Colin Perry, Connor Torruella, and Brett Walters walked to load the bases with two outs. Matt Hawley followed and also drew a free pass to bring home Perry and make it 5-0. The Trojans finished off their scoring when Tant delivered a two-run bloop single to center to plate Walters and Hawley and after three it was 8-0 Garner.

The Knights scored a pair of runs in both the third and fourth off Norris who walked only one and struck out six. Hulmes came in and got the final three outs to preserve the win for the Trojans.
