Will Cooper's fourth inning grand slam lifted Broughton to a four run lead they wouldn't reliniquish as the Capitals swept the season series with Garner by a 7-2 final score on Thursday afternoon at Wiley Warren Field.
Garner (1-2) had their only offense in the first inning when Brandon Tant walked to begin the game and two batters later, CJ Schmitt belted his first home run of the season to give the Trojans a two-run lead.
That lead would be short lived as Broughton (2-0) climbed back into the game in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half. With a runners at the corner's and two outs, Brandon Saunders lined Garrett Hamilton's (L 0-1) pitch into left field for the RBI single to make it 2-1 Trojans.
It would remain the same way until the fourth inning when the Caps exploded with a five run inning. After the first two men of the inning reached base, Garner changed pitchers and brought in Robert Doak who faced two batters and walked both. The second walk Doak allowed, brought home a run to tie the game and also loaded the bases. The Trojans removed Doak in favor of Jacob Faucette.
Facucette's first pitch to Will Cooper was a strike the Cooper blasted over the wall in right field for a grand slam and gave Broughton a four run lead that they would not give up. Following the grand slam, Facuette, remained in the game and pitch three very effective innings walk two and striking out four.
Meanwhile, the Trojans could not solve the puzzle that was Wilson White (W 1-0). The righthander came in to pitch beginning in the fourth inning and struck out two Trojans and allowed just one hit to give Broughton a season sweep of the Trojans with a 7-2 victory.
Garner returns to action Monday afternoon at 4:00 when they host Millbrook at Trojan Park for an Endowment game.
