Errors cost Trojans in loss at West Johnston

Garner committed a season high five errors including three in one inning as West Johnston defeated the Trojans 6-4 on Tuesday night at Wildcat park.

West Johnston ( 5-2, 1-0) struck first off Trojan starter, Will Norris in the second inning with four runs. With one out, Thomas Hill reached on the first error of the inning, Alex Espada followed with an infield single. Garner looked to be out of the inning as Norris struck out Kodi Whitley, but a walk to Austin Pittman loaded the bases. With the bases loaded, Adam Morrison delivered an infield single to score a run. After two more errors and a walk, the Wildcats had batted around and led 4-0, however, Norris pitched himself out of the jam and left the bases loaded.

Garner (2-3, 0-1) answered right back in the top of the third. With two out, Brandon Tant and Taylor Stephens had back to back singles. Alec Hulmes followed the singles with a home run over the wall in left and pulled the Trojans back to within one at 4-3. Garner put two more runners on as CJ Schmitt singled and Norris reached on an error, but a groundout ended the threat of anymore runs for the Trojans.

After a couple of scoreless innings, Garner tied the score in the top of the fifth as Stephens doubled to begin the frame. However it looked like the Trojans couldn't capitalize as the next two hitters struck out and flew out. But, Norris walked and Connor Torruella was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Brett Walters who reached on an error allowing Stephens to score and knot the game at four.

West Johnston struck back in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. With one out, Parrish doubled to left field and Aaron McGee reached on an error putting runners at the corners with one out. Norris got the groundball he needed to get out of the inning however, the turn from second was late and the Wildcats pushed the go ahead run across.

In the bottom of the sixth, West added some insurance as Justin Carroll doubled home Pittman to make it 6-4 Wildcats.

Garner had the tying run at the plate in the top of the seventh, but the closer, Pittman struck out the side giving the Wildcats a 6-4 victory.
