Ashley Carroll slammed a pair of home runs and drove in seven runs as Garner's Varsity Softball team defeated Cary 15-2 on Wednesday night to earn their second win in as many days.
Cary (0-5) struck first in the bottom of the opening frame off Lady Trojan starter Lauren Marbury. With one out, Casey Brawn reached and moved to second on an error and later came around to score on a fielder's choice.
Garner (3-1) would answer two innings later with two out. Raven Smith singled and stole second and third ahead of Mary-Scott Powell who reached on the first of four Cary errors to plate Smith and tie the ball game. Carroll came to the plate and promptly sent a 1-0 pitch over the wall in left centerfield giving Garner a 3-1 lead.
After Garner added another run in the fourth inning to go up 4-1, Cary answered with a run on a Claire Ruddiman single which made it 4-2 after four innings of play.
In the fifth, the Trojans scored again when Carroll collected her third RBI of the game on a ground out which brought Smith in to score and Powell scored in the same inning on another Lady Imp error.
The sixth inning is where things came unglued for Cary. With two on and two outs, Garner loaded the bases for Powell who delivered a two-run single. Amanda Hulmes got her first at bat of the night and delivered a single to score Powell and after six, Garner had a 10-2 lead.
In their final at bat, the Trojans made their swings count as Shea Barbour delivered a single to plate Courtney Barbour. Later in the frame, Garner loaded the bases for Carroll who, on a 2-2 pitch hammered it over the wall in center for a grand-slam. It was her second homer of the game and third of the season.
Christina Gower came on in relief of Marbury and pitched the final three innings to earn the save as Garner defeated Cary 15-2.
The Lady Trojans return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to West Johnston for a 7:00 first pitch.
