Reed Signs With Mount Olive

Dominique Reed inked his name on a National Letter of Intent on Friday morning as he signed to play basketball with Mount Olive of the Conference Carolians in 2012.

Reed, who led the Trojans to the sectional finals the last three seasons was the work house inside for the men of Troy and as a result the 6-9 senior garnished All-Conference honors and was tabbed as the Greater Neuse River Player of the Year in addition to being named District Five Player of the Year by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association and was also second team All-State as named by the same organization.

Averaging 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per contest during the 2011-2012 season, Reed was chosen to participate in the North Carolina East/West All-Star this July in the Greensboro Coliseum.

Dominique plans to major in accounting while enrolled at Mount Olive where fittingly, their mascot is also a Trojan.

Congratulations to Dominique Reed on an outstanding career at Garner High School and we look forward to watching you at the next level.

Trojans Fall to Wildcats

WEB CAST.

West Johnston broke a two-all tie with a three-run sixth inning to increase their lead in the Greater Neuse River Conference as they defeated the Garner Trojans 5-2 in Benson on Friday night.

The Wildcats (15-3, 9-2) broke the tie on a one out double from Tripp Atkinson followed three hitters later by Trey Lee who singled in the final run of the inning off Trojan starter Tyler Marshburn (L, 3-4) as West took the 5-2 lead.

Garner (12-9, 7-4) took the lead in the second inning when Skyler Strickland scored on a Alec Hulmes hit to the outfield to make it 2-1 Trojans. However, the Wildcats tied the score in the fourth when Adam Morris stole third and came in to score on a throwing error on the Trojan catcher, Carrington Austin.

The Trojans return to action on Tuesday night at 7:00 when they host Knightdale at Trojan Park.

**The JV Baseball team downed West Johnston 4-2 on Friday night. They will also host Knightdale on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 at Trojan Park.**

Softball Comes up with HUGE Win

Coach Barbour and his Lady Trojans didn't have a whole lot of offense on Friday night at West Johnston, but they had enough as they edged the Wildcats 1-0 to sweep the season series with the 'Cats.

Still scoreless in the fourth, Amber Kirkland drove a fly ball into the outfield which plated Cheyenne Champion and gave Garner a 1-0 lead.

That was plenty of run support for Lauren Marbery who also got some great defense behind her as Shea Barbour made a diving grab in the outfield to rob the Wildcats of extra bases and keep the game in the favor of the lady Trojans.

West tried to push across a run in the seventh but Courtney Barbour gunned down the runner trying to steal second and give the Trojans the 1-0 victory.

Garner returns home on Tuesday night at 7:00 when they welcome Knightdale to Trojan Field. The JV team (who lost to West 11-1) will also take on Knightdale at 5:00

Pitching Performance Propels Trojans to Victory

WEB CAST .

Garner right-hander Scotty McCreery tossed the third complete game of the season for the Trojan pitching staff on Tuesday night while his offense game him adquate support as the Trojans defeated the Smithfield-Selma Spartans 5-0 at Trojan Park.

The Trojans (12-8, 7-3) jumped on the board first in the the second inning when Aquail Sanders brought Jake Faucette home on a sacrifice fly.

The men of Troy tacked on four more runs in the third inning against Spartan starter Ben Youngblood (L, 7-2). After three straight base hits to begin the frame, Carrington Austin singled in a run while Levin Woodall followed two batters later with a ball the hit off the first base bag and rolled down the right field line scoring two and giving Garner a 5-0 lead.

That proved to be plenty of run support for McCreery (W, 2-0) who allowed just one fly ball out all night while scattering just three hits over his seven innings of work. Additionally, the righty walked just two batters and struck out seven throwing just 107 pitches on the night.

Garner now moves into second place all alone in the Greater Neuse River Conference standings and will hit the road Friday night to battle league leading West Johnston - first pitch is slated for 7:00.

**The JV team picke dup a 7-1 victory over SSS they will travel to West Johnston Friday afternoon at 4:00.**

Trojans blast Central

WEB CAST.

Harnett Central (3-13, 3-6) scored their one run of the contest in the first inning off Trojan starter Brighton Hudson (W, 4-0) as the left-hander issued a two-out free pass followed two hitters later by a Cole Hart double to give Central a short lived 1-0 lead.

Baseball falls to Clayton

WEB CAST.

It was a night full of offense at Trojan Park on Tuesday night. Unfortunately for Garner, they didn't have enough offense to combat the Clayton attack as they fell to the Comets 14-6.

Clayton (12-6, 5-4) opened up the game with a four spot in the opening inning off Trojan starter Tyler Marshburn (L, 3-3) and after another run in the second, the Comets held a 5-0 lead.

Garner (10-7, 5-2) came storming back in the second with five runs off Comet right-hander Evan Phillips. The big hits of the inning were a two-run double from Jake Faucette and RBI singles from Aquail Sanders and Taylor Stephens as the Trojans knotted the score at five after two.

The men of Troy then took a one-run advantage in the third when Vince Jefferies walked and scored on three consecutive wild pitches.

Clayton would once again find their offensive mojo in the fifth as they exploded for five runs and later added four more in the seventh to pull away and earn the 14-6 victory.

Garner returns to action on Thursday night at 7:00 when they travel to East Wake to battle the Warriors.

**JV Baseball fell to Clayton 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon. They are back in action on Thursday at 4:00 when they play at East Wake*

The Lady Trojans took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Courtney Weathersbee drove home Amber Kirkland and Kelsey Bryan. Clayton came back and narrowed the margin to one with a single scratch in the third.

However, that would be as close as the Comets got as Lauren Marbrey settled in to preserve the one-run, 2-1 victory for Garner.

The Lady Trojans return to action on Thursday night at 7:00 when they travel to East Wake. The JV team will play before at 5:00.

Trojans Hammer Southeast Raleigh

WEB CAST.

Garner scored a season high 16 runs on Wednesday afternoon including 11 runs in the second inning as they picked up a 16-0 victory at Southeast Raleigh.

The Trojans (10-6, 5-1) scored three runs in the opening frame but most of the damage came in the second inning when the Trojans sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs in the frame. The big knock came off the bat of Tyler Marshburn who blasted a grand slam over the wall in right center field for his first home run as a member of the squad.

Those 14 runs were more than enough for Garner starter, Scotty McCreery (W, 1-0) who worked four innings scattering three hits and striking out six without a walk to keep Southeast Raleigh (0-10, 0-6) scoreless.

Garner added two more runs in the fourth as Carrington Austin doubled home a pair (his second of the game) as he finished his day with four total RBIs.

Pitchers Duel goes to Apex

WEB CAST.

Pitching was the story of the game on Friday night at Trojan Park, but it takes offense to win and Apex had just a little more at the plate as they defeated Garner 2-1 in the second game of the Four Oaks Bank/Tri-9 Challenge.

Apex (7-4) scored their first run of the game off Trojan starter Tyler Marshburn (L, 3-2) as Keaton Oaks hammer a home run over the wall in left. That would be all the Cougars got in the frame but they did threaten for more as the put runners at the corners with just one out before Marshburn pitched out of the jam.

Another run crossed the plate for Apex in the third as Austin Debevec singled to begin the inning and later scored on a Matt Tenuta sacrifice fly to put the Cougars up 2-0.

Meanwhile Garner (9-5) couldn't get their offense going as Tenuta (W, 3-2) kept the Trojans off balance all night long and on the occasions the Trojans did threaten, the lefty managed to pitch out of the trouble.

The men of Troy finally pushed across a run in the fifth when Alec Hulmes grounded out to third which plated Taylor Stephens. That would be as close as the Trojans got as in the seventh as Debevec recorded the final three outs to lift Apex to the 2-1 victory.

Garner returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 when they travel to Holly Springs High School to battle the Golden Hawks in the final game of the Four Oaks Bank/Tri-9 Challenge.
