Trojans Keep on Rolling, Blast Comets

WEB CAST.

The Garner offense picked up right where they left off last week as they scored at will in a special Thursday night football game, which saw Garner defeat Clayton 38-10 at Trojan Stadium.

Garner (4-2, 2-0) scored on their first possession of the night when it was the lethal combination of Lemond Johnson to Juwan Moye. This time, it was a 50-yard touchdown pass, for Johnson his seventh scoring pass of the season, while Moye hauled in his sixth touchdown reception.

Following the Garner score, AJ Clanton took over and carried the Trojans for the rest of the half. On Garner's next drive, the Trojans marched the ball down the field where Clanton took it 26 yards to the house and give the home team a 14-0 lead.

Clayton (2-4, 0-2) got on the board with a 18-yard Eric Wrinker field goal to trim the lead to 14-3 early in the second quarter.

On the ensuing possession, Clanton, took the fist play of the drive and went 35 yards into Comet territory three plays later, Clanton, found the end zone from six yards out for his second touchdown of the night and Garner was up 21-0.

After Clayton went three and out on their next drive, Garner got the ball at their own 33 and after a couple of runs, the Trojans had the ball near midfield, where once again Clanton broke free for a 52-yard run to pay dirt and Garner was up 28-3, which was the score at halftime.

Garner got the ball to begin the second half and promptly marched the ball down the field where Connor Torruella banged home a 33-yard field goal to make it 31-3 Trojans.

After Garner went three and out on their next drive, the Trojans punted for the first time in the game, but on the kick, Clayton fumbled the return and Garner recovered at the Comet nine. Two plays later, Garner found the end zone again. However, there was a personal foul call that moved the football back past the 20 yard line, were Torruella hit the 34 yard extra point and made it 38-3 Garner.

Clayton added a late touchdown run by Montrelle Sanders to make it 38-10, but Garner was too much for the Comets on Thursday night as the Trojans have now won the last 22 meetings against Clayton.

Clanton unofficially fin shed the game with 185 yards while Johnson unofficially finished the game 4-5 passing with 87 yards. Also, Torruella finished the night with five touchbacks which brings his season total to 21.

Garner will be back in action next Friday at 7:30 when they travel to Knightdale to take on the Knights.

JV Trojans Fall to Clayton

It was a defensive battle at Clayton's Comet Stadium on Wednesday night, but in the end, the Comets handed Garner their first loss of the season as Clayton came away with the 12-6 win.

The Comets opened the scoring with two minutes left in the first quarter as they ran back an intercepted pass and took a 6-0 lead. That score would hold up as the two teams went to the locker room with Garner down by six.

In the second half, the Trojans battled back to tie the score as Vince Jefferies ran in on the quarterback keeper.

However, Clayton came right back and went ahead 12-6 after a 22-yard touchdown pass. The Trojans had chances down the strech but couldn't get anything going as they fell to the Comets 12-6.

Garner is back at home next Thursday night at 7:00 when they host the Knightdale Knights.

Trojans Open Conference Play with Thrashing of West Johnston

WEB CAST.

After a tough start to the season, the Garner Trojans battled back to a 2-2 record as they began Conference play on Friday night. First on the slate for the Trojans was a West Johnston Wildcat squad who had defeated Garner two consecutive years, but Garner made a big statement as they scored 45 unanswered points to roll past West Johnston 45-6.

West Johnston (1-4, 0-1) scored the first points of the game as Justin Carroll found Tyrus Colton for a touchown, however the point after was no good and West had to settle for a 6-0 lead.

Garner (3-2, 1-0) answered on the next drive, as on the first play, Lemond Johnson hit Juwan Moye down the sideline for a 53 yard touchdown pass and Garner was off and racing up 7-6.

After a one-yard touchdown run from Johnson and another connection from Johnson to Moye, this time a 20-yard strike, Garner had a quick 21-6 lead. However, the Trojans weren't done scoring in the first half as Connor Torruella nailed a season long 35 yard field goal to put Garner up 24-6 heading to the locker room.

The second half was more of the same as Garner took the ball to begin the second half and marched down the field and took a 31-6 lead as AJ Clanton found the end zone from 14 yards out.

Then, for the third time in the game, Johnson found Moye, this time from 55 yards out and it was 38-6 Garner after three quarters.

Garner's final score of the night came from Tyler Hinton who found pay dirt from 50 yards out and the Trojans capped the night with a 45-6 win on the road over West Johnston.

Garner continues Greater Neuse River Conference play next THURSDAY night at 7:00 when they host the Clayton Comets.

It will be a Community of Hope Food Drive at Trojan Stadium and if you bring three (3) cans of food, you will get $1.00 off admission also the first 1,000 fans receive a goodie bag full of great coupons to fine restaurants!

JV Football Rolls Over West Johnston 54-0

The Garner Trojans scored early an often on Thursday night as the blasted West Johnston 54-0 at Trojan Stadium.

Garner (4-0) scored on their first possession of the night as after just three plays, Vince Jefferies found Armani Lanier for a 24 yard touchdown capping a 75 yard drive and giving Garner a early 7-0 lead.

West Johnston took the ensuing possession and tried to get back in the game, but the turnover bug bit the Wildcats as on their third play from scrimmage, Carrington Austin picked off Ryne Turner's pass and took it 27 yard to the house and gave the Trojans a quick 14-0 lead.

On the next Wildcat possession, they were moving the ball down the field however, on the eighth play of the drive, Turner was picked again, this time by Raevon Smith who returned it 75 yards for another Garner Touchdown and with just over seven minutes left in the first quarter, Garner was up 21-0.

Garner's next possession resulted in yet another score as Greg Stewart rambled five yards to cap a three play scoring drive and after the FIRST QUARTER was over, Garner had a 27-0 lead.

The Trojans scored again on their next drive as Jefferies once again found Lanier this time for a 49 yard hook up and Garner had a 34-0 lead.

Garner made it 40-0 heading into halftime when Jefferies threw his third touchdown pass of the quarter as he hooked up with Brayden Sims for 15 yards and Garner took a 40 point lead into the locker room.

In the second half, Garner scored just two touchdowns, both on the ground as Snoop Dawson rambled in from four yards out and Louis Baker ended the game with a 10 yard run and give the Trojans the 54-0 win over West Johnston.

Trojans Sink Pirates 42-0

WEBCAST.

For the first time in the 2010 season, the Garner Trojan offense was in full swing as they put up 42 points while the defense pitched their first shut out of the season as Garner picked up their first home win of the season over the Durham Riverside Pirates 42-0.

Garner (2-2) scored their first touchdown of the night on their second possession of the game. Following a Pirate punt, the Trojans marched the ball down to their 46 yard line, where Lemond Johnson connected with Juwan Moye down the sideline for a 54 yard touchdown play, the third passing score for Johnson this season, and Garner took a 7-0 lead.

On their next possession, Garner took over at midfield, and it took just two plays for Demetrius Fairley to 40 yards and give the Trojans a quick 14-0 lead.

Once again, the Riverside (0-4) drive stalled and they were forced to punt, but the punt was blocked and scooped up for the score by DeAnthony Harris and early in the second quarter, Garner was up 21-0.

The Trojans were not done scoring in the first half as Garner used a steady diet of rushing plays to move into the red zone where Johnson scrambled eight yards for another Touchdown, giving Garner a 28-0 lead.

Garner's final first half score came off a Riverside punt, when Moye fielded the punt and took it down the sideline for six more and the Trojans went into the locker room up 35-0.

In the second half, Garner scored just once against the Pirate defense as AJ Clanton found the end zone for the second time this year, with an 11 yard run and cap the scoring for the Trojans as they took a 42-0 lead midway through the third quarter, but couldn't put up anymore points as Garner finished the non-conference schedule with a 2-2 mark.

The Trojans will be back in action next week as they hit the road to open Conference play when they travel to Benson to take on the West Johnston Wildcats. Kick-off is set for 7:30 and the Trojan Sports Network will be on the air at 7:00.

Trojans Stop Slide as they Clog the Creek

WEB CAST.

The Garner Trojans were off to their worst start since 1983, however, on Friday night, the Trojans found their two game slide with a 26-16 road win over Middle Creek.

Middle Creek (2-1) struck first after a Garner turnover, however, with the Mustangs in the red zone, the Trojan defense held its ground and limited the Mustangs to a 19 yard field goal and give Middle Creek an early 3-0 lead.

On the ensuing possession, Garner (1-2) came right back with a quick strike beginning the drive from the Mustang 40 yard line. After a couple of runs move the ball to the Mustang 20, where Lemond Johnson found Bryan Watkins for the touchdown and a 7-3 lead for the Trojans.

The second quarter was a field position game as neither team yielded an inch, but, Middle Creek got the ball back with just over five minutes to play in the half and Garrett Leatham went to work as the Mustangs moved the ball down the field and Middle Creek capped the drive with a score from two yards out, but, the point after hit the upright and was no good which gave Middle Creek a 9-7 lead going into the locker room.

Middle Creek got the ball to begin the second half and on the first play from scrimmage, Leatham had his pass picked by Gavin Wilson who returned it 30 yards into the red zone where the Trojans scored on an 18 yard touch down from from AJ Clanton and took a 14-9 lead.

After the teams exchanged punts, Garner stuck again this time off the foot of Connor Torruella who nailed a 23 yard field goal to make it 17-9 Trojans.

Middle Creek followed with a three and out and punted back to the Trojans where Juwan Moye ran it all the way back for a 59 yard touchdown return and it was 23-9 in favor of the Trojans.

The Mustangs struck again very quickly as Leatham found Chris Hubert for the 22 yard touchdown to pull the Mustangs to within seven a 23-16. However, the Trojans added another Torruella field goal, this time a chip shot 21 yarder as Garner took a 10 point lead.

Middle Creek couldn't solve the Trojan defensive attack as Leatham fires four interceptions on the night and the Trojans pick up their first win of the season with a 26-16 decision over the Mustangs.

Garner will be back at home next Friday at 7:30 when they host the Durham Riverside Pirates.

JV Trojans Put up 48 to Defeat Middle Creek in Home Debut

It took Garner almost the entire first quarter to get the offense in gear, but once they found their stride, the Trojans were off to the races as they blasted Middle Creek 48-14 on Thursday night at Trojan Stadium.

Garner began their first scoring drive from their own 19 yard line after the Trojans recovered a Middle Creek fumble. The drive was jump started when Garner quarterback, Vince Jefferies connected with Armani Lanier for a 13 yard pick up and the Trojans were off to the races. After a 63 yard touchdown run was called back for a personal foul, Garner went back to work moving the ball down the field with a steady diet of rushing to get down the the Middle Creek 30 where it was the team of Jefferies and Lanier who found the end zone and the Trojans took a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.

Middle Creek's first drive of the second quarter stalled and the Trojans took over from their own 28 and four plays later, Jefferies again found Lanier for the 25 yard touchdown strike and with 9:30 to play in the half, it was 14-0 Garner.

The Mustangs again struggled on offense as David Salmon has his pass intercepted by Garner Linebacker, Carrington Austin which led to a quick five play scoring drive for the Trojans. after a 20 yard pass completion to Terry Gilman, Garner had the ball inside the red zone where Gregory Stewart ran it in from six yards out and with just over five minutes left in the half, Garner was up 21-0, which would be the halftime score.

Garner got the ball to begin the second half of play and took the ball down the field. Once again, the Trojans went to the air and Jefferies found Gilman for 18 yards and eventually, Brandon Mayfield found pay dirt from six yards away and it was 28-0 Garner with just under eight minutes left in the third.

On the ensuing possession, Middle Creek got on the board with a 35 yard touchdown pass from Salmon to Gabe Cooper and after the two-point try was good, Middle Creek cut the lead to 28-8, and that would be the score after three periods of play.

Garner's first drive of the fourth quarter was a successful one as it took just one play following a Mustang punt as Raevon Smith took it 34 yards to the house and Garner (2-0) took a 35-8 lead.

Middle Creek went three and out on their next drive and once again, Garner wasted little time as Garner used four consecutive runs to score as Mayfield capped the drive and with seven minutes to play, it was 41-8 Garner.

The final score of the night for Garner was a long drive with a steady diet of the run led by Oloniy Dawson and Louis Baker both moved the ball down the field for the Trojans and the drive was aided by a Middle Creek penalty and the nine play drive was brought to an end when Brighton Hudson found the end zone on a one yard quarterback keeper and with 80 second to play Garner was up 48-8.

Middle Creek added a very late touchdown, but it was not enough as the Trojans won their home opener, 48-8. The JV Trojans will be back on the road next week as they take on Durham Riverside from Lenny Wrenn Stadium with kickoff slated for 6:00.
