During the first 23 games of the season, the Garner Trojans have won games in many different ways, on Thursday night, they went back to typical Garner basketball, out rebound and run past the opponent. Garner did both very effectively on Thursday as they blasted Knightdale 67-48 to advance to Friday and the championship game of the Greater Neuse River Conference Tournament .

The opening quarter was not exactly thrilling offensively as the two teams combined for 10 points, the Trojans outscoring the Knights 6-4.

However, both teams picked up the pace in the second quarter as Garner (23-0) found their stride and used five second quarter points by Emanuel McClain to take a 22-19 lead at halftime. Knightdale (14-12) got seven points from Jalen Jones in the first half to remain in the game.

As the second half began, it was clear that it was a different Trojan squad. After not scoring a single point in the first half, Dominique Reed found his shot scoring eight of his 14 points in the third quarter, meanwhile, Reed, Cameron Redd and Deion Dorsey went to work on the boards helping Garner take a 13-point, 43-30 lead to the final quarter.

Knightdale tried to make a run in the final quarter and managed to cut into the Garner lead. Then, with 2:48 left in the game, the Knights called a timeout, trailing 55-39. That was a lead the Trojans would not give up as over the final 2:48, Garner outscored the Knights 22-11 as they cruised past Knightdale 67-48.

Garner will be back at home tomorrow night at 7:30 when they host Southeast Raleigh who beat Clayton 67-65 in the other semi-final. The girls championship game between Clayton and Southeast Raleigh will also be held at Garner beginning at 6:00.
