In the history of Garner High School, no boys basketball team had finished the regular season undefeated - Friday night, history changed as Garner bombarded Harnett Central 87-62 to finish the regular season with a perfect record.

Garner (21-0, 14-0) started fast as Emmanuel McClain hit a three on the opening possession to start the game. However, Harnett Central did not go quietly as they put up a big time fight. Brian Taylor was the spark plug for the Central engine as he scored six of his game high 25 in the first quarter, and after one, Garner had a 21-15 lead.

The game continued to remain tight in the second quarter as Garner played very sloppy while Harnett Central (6-15, 2-12) used big second quarters from Taylor Malcolm Graves. But, midway through the period, Donald Johnson caught fire, the Garner senior scored 11 of his 22 points in the second. Also, Dominique Reed chipped in 11 first half points to give the visiting Trojans a 46-33 lead at the break.

Garner began to show its depth in the second half as both teams got into foul trouble. But, it was a new hero as Gavin Wilson scored just two points in the first half, but in the third quarter he exploded for six points to finish with 13 on the night. That gave the Trojans a 60-42 lead heading to the final eight minutes.

In that final period, Garner had a very balanced effort, but the exclamation point of the win came with about two minutes left in the game when Larry Richardson made a steal at mid-court and jammed with the right hand and drew a foul to put the game away. Garner was able to get everyone the roster some playing time as the defeated Harnett Central 87-62, to cap a perfect season.
