Trojans hammer East Wake for Homecoming victory

Garner scored early and often on Monday night to win their 28th consecutive homecoming with a 61-6 win over East Wake at Trojan Stadium.

The Trojans (6-0, 2-0) scored on their first drive of the game as they faced a fourth and goal from the three yard-line and on the play, Vince Jefferies hit Armani Lanier for his 12th touchdown pass of the year and Garner was off to the races with a 7-0 lead.

After both teams played the field position game, Garner scored again as Jefferies capped the drive with a one yard touchdown run and a 14-0 lead, at the end of the first quarter.

On the first drive of the second quarter, the Trojans used a six play drive to march down the field on the East Wake (2-4, 0-2) defense before Tyler Hinton scored his first touchdown of the season and gave Garner a 20-0 lead.

The next drive for Garner last two plays before Juwan Moye took it 55-yards for the scored and a 27-0 lead. With one final drive in the first half, Demetrius Fairley rumbled 80-yards and capped the first half with Garner in front 34-0.

At halftime, Garner crowned their homecoming court: Prince: Miles Crawford, Princess: Simone Bullock, King: Jay Booth and Queen: Farrah Roberts.

As for the second half, it was more of the same for Garner. East Wake got the ball to start the second half and after a three and out, the Warriors, traveled a negative two yards, and Garner started from the three yard line which Moye cashed in for the score one play later and a 41-0 lead.

After another rushing score made it 47-0 Garner, Hinton scored again from 16-yards out and a 54-0 lead.

East Wake got on the board late in the third quarter when Chris Pernell hit Dominique Lane for the score and a 54-6 lead.

However, the Trojans added another score on a 14 play, 92-yard drive that ended with Hinton's third rushing touchdown of the night and a 61-6 final.

For Garner it's the second time they've scored 60 points this year with the other being the season opener at Enloe.

The Trojans are back in action on Friday night when they travel to Charles T. Tucker Stadium to battle the Smithfield-Selma Spartans, kick-off is slated for 7:30.
