Baseball falls to Fuquay

Fuquay-Varina scored five runs in the fifth inning as they cruised past Garner 7-1 on Saturday afternoon at Trojan Park.

Garner (5-6) scored their only run in the first inning when Taylor Stephens reached on a fielder's choice and after a walk to Alec Hulmes the Trojans had runners at first and second for Brett Walters who singled home Stephens for his sixth RBI of the season and a 1-0 Trojan lead after one.

Fuquay (9-4) took the lead in the fourth inning off Hulmes (L 0-1) as Colin Carver sent a fly ball to right field where Garrett Suggs was able to tag and score. Zak Orrison lined a doubled into the gap in left center to plate Chris Williams who had singled earlier in the inning and after four, the Bengals took a 2-1.

The Bengals expanded their lead in the fifth off Trojan reliever, Jake Faucette as Fuquay began the inning with four singles and reaching on an error. The Big hit came from Orrison who collected his second double of the game which plated a pair and after five, Garner was down 7-1.

Suggs went five innings and limited the Trojans to just three hits,walking only one and striking out four to pick up the win.

After the 7-1 loss, the Trojans will return to action on Thursday night when they travel to Fuquay to face off with the Bengals first pitch is set for 7:00.

The JV Baseball squad survived several big innings from Fuquay and held on for the 13-10 win on Saturday afternoon.

Garner will travel to Fuquay on Thursday for a 4:00 first pitch.
