Brandon Tant and Brett Bailey clubbed home runs on Tuesday night as they snapped a four-game losing streak defeating West Johnston 8-3 at Trojan Park.
Garner (6-8, 4-4) got the scoring going in the opening inning with a pair of run as Tant began the ballgame with a double and move to third on a pass ball before coming home on a Alec Hulmes sacrifice fly. Brett Walters reached on an error and was singled home by Taylor Stephens as the Trojans opened up a 2-0 lead after one.
West Johnston (8-6, 3-4) cut the lead in half in the second as Matt Parrish singled to begin the frame and came around to score on Tant's eight error of the season, and after an inning and a half, the Trojans had a 2-1 lead.
In the last of the second, Aquail Sanders collected his first hit of the night and was sacrificed around to third ahead of Tant who blasted his first homer of the year over the wall in right and a 4-1 Garner lead.
The Wildcats cut the lead to one in the fourth as they scored three times to chase Garner starter Danny Shortt from the game. Thomas Hill led off the game with a solo home run. Kodi Whitley was hit by the pitch before he was singled home by Alex Espada. But Will Norris came in and shut the door on West Johnston in the fourth and the rest of the game.
Garner answered right back in the last of the fourth as Bailey singled and moved to second on the play when the ball rolled past the Wildcat left fielder. That set the stage for Brighton Hudson who collected his first varsity base hit and RBI when he singled to center to make it 5-3 Trojans. After a pass ball moved Husdson to third, Tant picked up his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to center to make it 6-3 Trojans.
The final runs came home in the last of the sixth against Wildcat starter, Kodi Whitley (L) as Sanders picked up his second hit of the night ahead of Bailey who blasted a home run to dead center field his second in as many games.
Garner held on in the seventh as they defeated West Johnston 8-3.
