JV Trojans end season perfect 10-0!!

Juwan Moye rushes for 226 yards, with scoring runs from 11, 72 & 50 yards as the Trojans down Holly Springs 29-14 and finish their season undefeated for the 3rd time in 4 years. Demetrius Fairley adds a 26 yard touchdown run as the Trojan offensive line of Mason Sawyer, Bryan Watkins, Brandon Smith, Christian Wood and JaRod McAllister plow the way as the Garner running backs pile up 272 yards rushing on the evening.

The Hawks (7-3) scratch first but have to go just 17 yards with QB Joey Roach scoring from 6 yards out for a 7-0 lead. The Trojans manage just one first down in their first three series, all played on their side of the field. Shaquille Nurriden recovers a snap over the Holly Springs punter's head to set up a 20 yard Connor Torruella field goal to trim the margin to 7-3. The Trojan defense stymies the Hawks on their next series, taking over on downs at the Garner 28. Moye gallops 72 yards on the pitch and Torruella's kick gives Garner the lead.

Tyler Thornton levels the kick returner at the Hawk 9. Holly Springs moves the ball to the Garner 46, with Luke Wilhemson gathering 16 yards. Davonte Atkinson drops Andrew McMillan for no gain on second down and Terrence Fussell lays a big hit on Markez Davis for a two yard loss to force a Hawk punt and send the teams into the half with Garner leading 10-7.

Holly Springs takes the ball first in the second half but quickly go 3-and-out (the first of six consecutive second half possession they fail to pick up a first down). From their own 22, Moye scampers 21 yards and a Hawk personal foul for hitting him out of bounds moves the ball to the Holly Springs 42. But a Garner fumble kills the drive at the 32. Another staunch defensive stand and Garner starts on their 28. A 10-play, nearly six minute drive, keyed by a Dwight Darity to Seth Council 42 yard hook-up moves it to the Hawk goal line. But two Darity sneaks, the 2nd of which appeared to be a sure score was negated when it is ruled his knee touched before the ball crossed the plane. Having mustered little offense, the Hawks take over inside their own 1 but get breathing room on a Garner offside call.

The Trojan defense forces another turnover with JaRod McAllister recovering at the Holly Springs 6 yard line. Moye sweeps in for an apparent score but another Trojan penalty, a holding call, brings it back to the 16 as the third period ends. After Fairley powers his way for 4 yards, Moye scores again from 11 out and the Trojans move out in front 17-7. The Hawks gain just a yard on their series and Garner has the ball back at their own 30. Moye rushes three times to move it 44 yards and Fairley caps the drive from 26 yards out for a 23-7 lead. Malik Knight sacks Roach to thwart the Hawks next drive. After a Trojan punt Daniel Alston picks off Roach and returns it to midfield, where Moye dashes the distance on first down for a 29-7 lead with 3:45 to go.

The Hawks put together their only successful drive of the half, picking a David Ketleson 16 yard run for the final score. Kyle Wiggins leads the Trojans out for their final series and the clock goes to zero on another perfect season!

Congratulations to Coach Stancil Hines and the JV Trojans, 2008 GNRC Champions!!
