Entering play tonight Garner had lost the last eight meetings with the Enloe Eagles and on Tuesday night, the Trojans were pushed to the limit before breaking the streak in overtime, 64-61.
Garner (4-0) took the early advantage in the first quarter jumping out to a 15-8 lead after the first quarter. The early advantage for the Trojans were caused by great hussel plays on the floor.
However, Enloe (3-3) came back in the second quarter and outscored Garner 15-8 to even the score at the break, 23 all.
In the second half, Garner got in foul trouble in the third quarter but the Trojans managed to hang tough and going to the fourth and final stanza, the contest was still knotted, this time at 38.
It didn't take long in the fourth quarter for the Eagles to exploit the Garner foul trouble and in the blink of an eye, Enloe had a 10 point lead, which prompted Coach Gray to call a timeout.
With five minutes to go in the game, Garner was still down by seven but began on the comeback trail and cut the lead down to two points late in the game and eventually took a two-point lead late in the contest. Enloe came back and forced overtime with the score tied at 57.
In the overtime period, all of Garner's points came from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Enloe was still getting points down low to keep the game close. But, in the end, it was the free throws that the Trojans were able to hit which pushed them over the top as they survived a shot at the buzzer to edge Enloe 64-61.
