Wilson's Career Night Help Trojans Declaw the Wildcats to Open Conference Play

It didn't take long for the Garner Trojans to get the up tempo offense flowing on Friday as they ran past West Johnston 80-54.

Garner (5-0, 1-0) moved out to an early lead in the first quarter as Donald Johnson opened up his scoring with a couple of big baskets to give the Trojans a 22-16 lead after the first period.

In the second quarter, it was more of same as West Johnston (2-4, 0-1) tried to run an up tempo offense, but the Trojans forced several Wildcat turnovers in the second quarter. The real saving grace for West was the play of Justin Carroll who contributed 16 first half points to keep West to within 20 at the break 49-31 Garner at halftime.

Gavin Wilson, scored 13 first half points off the bench for Garner but only scored three points in the third quarter. His only basket was a three pointer as the third quarter buzzer sounded. After three, Garner was up 69-42.

Wilson, continued his effort in the fourth quarter chipping in seven points to give himself a new career high of 23 points.

Everyone on the Garner roster saw the floor on Friday night. However the fourth quarter got sloppy as both teams turned the ball over, but, the exclamation point was added by Daryl Saunders as he jammed on a fast break to help the Trojans rolled to an 80-54 win.

Next up for the Trojans is their home conference opener against Clayton on Tuesday night at 7:30 at Trojan Coliseum.

Varsity Girls Pick up Win in Conference Opener

The Lady Trojans got off to an early lead against West Johnston and opened up a 15-9 lead after the first quarter.

Give the Wildcats credit, they battled back and made it a close game at the break, as Garner took a 24-22 lead into the locker room.

In the third quarter, the Lady Trojans began to pull away with tough defense and easy fast break points as they took a 34-29 into the fourth quarter.

The game's final stanza it was more of Garner as the Wildcats ran out of steam and the depth of the Lady Trojans showed as they cruised to a 49-39 win.

Garner is back at home on Tuesday when they take on Clayton at 6:00.


JV Boys Pick up Conference Win

The JV Boys picked up a big time conference win on Friday night as they demolished West Johnston 81-21. Leading the charge for the Trojans were:

Demarcus Sanford - 21 pts, 9 rebs, 5 steals, 3 assts
Jasper Stallings - 12 pts, 8 rebs, 2 steals
Dominic McRae - 11 pts

The JV Boys are now 3-0 this season and will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Clayton a 7:30.


JV Girls Open with win at Home

The JV girls opened up their conference season with a hard fought win over West Johnston 49-43.
