After trailing by three at halftime, the Garner Trojans used a 23 point third quarter to ease past the Knightdale Knights 76-61 on Friday night at Knightdale High School to keep the Trojans perfect on the young season.
Knightdale (5-6, 1-3) started fast in the opening quarter racing out to a four point lead as Garner struggled to get things going on offense. The Trojans finally got things going as they feed the ball to the post where Dominique Reed scored six of his 11 points in the first quarter, to put the Garner in the lead 18-14 after the first stanza. However, the Trojans left several points on the board as they were 0-5 from the line in the first.
In the second quarter, Garner (7-0, 3-0) again struggled to find their stroke as Knightdale Sophomore, Deshaun Griffin scored six points in the second stanza which gave the Knights a 29-26 lead at halftime.
After halftime, Garner came out on fire as the outside shooters got hot as on back to back possessions, Gavin Wilson drained three point shots, but not to be out done, Donald Johnson also caught fire from outside. As a result, Garner erased the three point deficit and took a 52-38 lead into the final quarter.
Johnson took over for the Trojans in the final quarter as he scored 10 of his game high 23 points in the fourth quarter to keep Garner at a safe distance as they never trailed again. With the 76-61 win, the Trojans break a two-game losing streak to Knightdale.
Garner is back in action on Monday as they step outside of the conference to host the Wake Forest-Rolesville Cougars at 7:30.

Varsity Girls Fall to Knightdale
Coach Mays and the Varsity Girls had a tough time getting their rhythm in the first quarter, falling behind 4-0 to start the contest, however they cut the lead to five, at 30-25 at the break.
But, the Knights were too much in the third quarter as they built a lead. Garner hit the comeback trail in the final quarter and cut the lead to three with under a minute to play, but, Knightdale hit their free throws down the stretch to come away with a 48-43 win.
JV Girls Blast Knightdale
Coach Ellerbee and the JV Lady Trojans picked up right where they left off on Tuesday night as they returned home and rolled past West Johnston 60-44.
JV Trojans Nipped by Knightdale
In a back and fourth contest on Friday night, the JV Trojans couldn't find their touch in the fourth quarter as Knightdale slipped past the Trojans 43-42.
Garner is back in action on Monday night when they host Wake Forest-Rolesville at 6:00.
