The JV football team returned home on Thursday night as they hosted the Riverside Pirates at Trojan Stadium. Riverside won the coin flip to start the game, but that would be about the only thing that would go right for the Pirates on Thursday night as Garner bombarded the Pirates 55-0.
Garner's scoring onslaught began on the opening drive as Garner rushed the ball down the field and facing a 2nd and 3 on the Pirate 38, Raevon Smith broke lose and went in for the score and the 7-0 Garner lead, as the first quarter would end with the same 7-0 score.
The Garner barrage really kicked into high gear in the second quarter as on the sixth play of Garner's 3rd drive, Trojan quarterback, Vince Jeffries connected with Damian Ellis in the back left corner of the end zone and with 10:22 left in the first half, Garner led 13-0 as the point after was no good. On the ensuing Riverside possession, Pirate quarterback, Lane Garrett fired a pass down field that was complete, but to the wrong team as Tyree Chance came away with the interception.
Garner would take over with a short field and very slowly and methodically march the ball down field with six straight running plays and on the sixth play of the drive, Tyler Hinton rumbled in from two yards out and Garner would proceed to try for a two point conversion and convert as Jefferies ran it in on the quarterback keeper and Garner had a 21-0 lead.
The Trojans would add one more first half score when Raevon Smith scored from 27 yards out to make it 27-0 at halftime.
Riverside began the second half with the football, but went three and out and the Trojans took over at the Pirate 48 yard line and on the first play of the drive, Tyler Hinton scampered 52 yards for the score and the 34-0 Trojan lead.
On the next Riverside possession, Garrett would be picked again, this time by Joshua Bullock which led to another Garner Touchdown as Hinton scored from eight yards and it was quickly 40-0 Garner.
After a couple of stalled drives by each team, Riverside punted it away to the Trojans, and on the return for Garner, Anthony Tucker fielded the kick and took it down the left side 96 yards for the touchdown to make it 47-0 which would be the scored after three complete quarters.
Garner would add another score midway through the games final stanza as Roy Miles scored on a quarterback keeper and Garner would hold on to win 55-0 over the Pirates improving to 3-0 for the season.
The JV team will be back in action next Thursday at 7:00 when they travel to West Johnston to take on the Wildcats.
