Trojans Come from Six Back to Shock Comets

LIVE WEBCAST

It was apparent early in the game that Garner would have to come from behind if they wanted to defeat Clayton. After the first two innings, the Trojans were down 6-0 on the road at Clayton. But, to the Trojans credit they never lost focus as they began to chip away at the six run deficit getting two runs in the fourth inning when Pat Monahan walked with one out. That was followed by a Phillip Myrick single. That brought up Gabe Chrismon who laced a single to right, the ball got past Bryan Forbes in right field and two runs scored.

After adding another run in the fifth, Garner's bats took a cue from the weather outside and finally heated up. With one out in the sixth, Jackson Pleasant and Jeremy Conyers had back to back singles which chased Clayton starter, Dane Hardee.

The Comets came back with Junior pitcher, Zach Seagroves who gave up an RBI double to Paco Martin which made the score 6-4 Comets. Seagroves then threw back to back wild pitches which allowed the Trojans to plate two runs and tie the game.

Going to the seventh, the score was still tied at 6 and it looked as if the Trojans would fade into the Spring evening with out a 7th inning rally, but that all changed with two outs as Phillip Myrick walked then advanced all the way to third on a pass ball putting himself in scoring position for Gabe Chrismon.

Gabe would deliver as he sent a slow rolling ground ball to third. But the throw to first could not be picked up by Matt Bunn of Clayton and all of a sudden, Garner went from being six down to up one. But, the Trojans were not done. Matt Powell was the next Trojan hitter and on his first at bat of the night, Powell smashed a ground rule double to right center field to give the Trojans a 8-6 lead.

In the bottom of the 7th, Phillip Myrick headed back out for his fifth inning of relief as he was in for Drew Gay who followed Trojan starter Jackson Pleasant.

Myrick came in and did a lights out job in relief as in the bottom of the 7th, he got the Comets to go one, two, three and send the Trojan faithful back down Highway 70 with an 8-6 win.

Garner now moves to 10-9 on the season and 6-4 in the Conference as they get set to host Knightdale on Tuesday night at 7:00 at Trojan Park
