GMHS Class of 2009 scholarship nominees

The Trojan Club announces their 2009 scholarship opportunities. All athletes, cheerleaders, managers and trainers are eligible to apply. Applicants must have a minimum weighted grade point average of 3.0, participated in sports for 3 years (including senior year) & have been accepted at an institution of higher education. Applications must be submitted to GMHS Student Services on or before May 1st.

ATTENTION COLLEGE-BOUND JUNIORS: Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, and Stanford Universities are hosting an "Exploring College Options" information session for interested students and their parents. This session will be held for the Raleigh/Durham area on Sunday, April 26 at 7:30 pm at the Embassy Suites in Cary.     SECU Foundation “People Helping People” Scholarship
    Valued at $10,000 to attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina. Although the SECU Scholarship Program wishes to recognize academic achievement, the “People Helping People” scholarship has a much broader purpose: recognizing leadership and community involvement. Preference will be to students whose parents or guardians and family members are public sector employees who live and work in North Carolina. Some of the criteria for awarding this scholarship are:
    1) Best exemplifies the membership philosophy of credit unions, “People Helping People” and has demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement.
    2) Demonstrates scholastic achievement with a maintained 2.5 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale and may be deserving of financial aid.

    Garner Civitan Club Scholarship
    GMHS seniors who are participating members of the GMHS Junior Civitan Club who plan to attend two or four year colleges or technical schools in NC are encouraged to apply by picking up more information and an application from Mrs. Wendy Yde in Student Services. Turn in completed application to Counselor Mrs. Hawley by the April 15 deadline.


    The Garner Education Foundation, Progress Energy, the Town of Garner and Bob Moulton of National Pawn will be offering five scholarships to seniors at Garner Magnet High School. The initial criteria for applying for these scholarships are as follows: Scholarship applicants must have plans to attend a Technical School, College or University located in North Carolina and the recipients of these scholarships should be prepared to attend the meeting of the Garner Educational Foundation to be awarded the scholarships on June 8, 2009.

  • R. W. Moore Garner Educational Foundation Scholarship $1,000 award
  • Progress Energy Scholarship $1000 award (Applicant must major in the field of engineering)
  • Education Scholarships from Town of Garner Grant - Two $1500 awards
  • National Pawn Scholarship $1000 award
    You may pick up applications for these scholarships from Mrs. Wendy Yde in Student Services. Return complete application forms to Counselor Mrs. Wilma Hawley by the deadline of Wednesday, April 15, 2009.

    Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship: Is your student a community service coordinator? Nominate him or her for Kohl's scholarship!! (Info and online application at the link provided).

    The Lowe’s Scholarship: Lowe’s will award one hundred forty (140) $2,500 scholarships to high school seniors who intend to enroll in an undergraduate course of study for the 2009-2010 school year. The scholarship is open to both Lowe’s employees and the community. Winners are selected based on academic performance, leadership, community involvement and/or work experience.     The North Carolina Education Lottery Scholarship (ELS) was created by the 2005 General Assembly to provide financial assistance to needy North Carolina resident students attending eligible colleges and universities located within the state of North Carolina.

    The Crib to College Scholarship program is a merit based community involvement program. The Crib to College Foundation, which is primarily sponsored by Crumley and Associates Law Firm, is a 501c(3) non-profit whose mission is to promote safety through community involvement and education.     The Ruckus House Scholarship was developed in 2007 by current and former players of the Carolina Panthers to provide financial assistance to North Carolina residents who plan to attend college to pursue a career in early childhood, elementary, or special education. The Ruckus House Foundation is a non-profit organization that uses funds from charitable contributions and fundraising efforts.     The Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship applications are available with Mrs. Wendy Yde in Student Services. The scholarship is worth $1000 and the application is very short, but you will need to get a transcript and a letter of recommendation from Student Services.

    Hispanic high school seniors nationwide are invited to apply for a NCLR - Best Buy Emerging Latino Leaders Scholarship. $30,000 will be awarded to graduating Hispanic seniors who demonstrate excellence in community and school.     2009 SAMMY Award: The 12th Annual Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year seeks nominees through March 6th, 2009 to reward student athletes who demonstrate excellence in academics, athletics, community service, leadership and include milk as part of their healthy lifestyle. A panel of celebrity athletes including Andy Roddick, Steve Nash, Mia Hamm, Michelle Kwan and Tony Hawk will select this year's 25 SAMMY Award winners.
