Soccer Advances in Playoffs

After securing the first conference championship in school history, the varsity soccer team added another first to its resume on Wednesday night - a home playoff victory as Garner downed Fayetteville Pine Forest, 3-0 at Trojan Stadium.

Garner (15-2-1) took a one goal lead at halftime thanks to a Marco Perez goal midway through the period. It would be all the Trojans needed as senior keeper Kenneth Perkinson had another dazzling night in the net for the men of Troy.

However, Garner made sure they added some insurance in the second half as Perez struck again while Zach Hancock provided the third goal of the night for the Trojans while Kody Kamphuis tallied a pair of assists.

Garner will advance to the second round of the playoffs on Saturday when they welcome Wilmington New Hanover (13-6-2) to Trojan Stadium, the match is set for 5:00.
