Garner used a fast start on the road Friday night to put Harnett Central away and cap their second 20-win season is as many years with a 80-49 victory.
The Trojans used a big first quarter from Dominique Reed and Josh McClain to begin to pull away forcing Central to call a timeout midway through the first quarter and following that time out, Garner (20-2, 13-1) went on a 7-2 run to close the quarter and lead 21-6 after one.
In the second quarter it was the same story as Reed continued to go to work down low to finish the first half with 13 of his 20 points. Meanwhile, Larry Richardson buried a three and poured in eight first half points to give Garner a 41-15 lead at the break.
Harnett Central (4-16, 2-13) came out in the second half with a renewed fire and scored some easy buckets on a sloppy defensive effort and managed to cut the lead to 47-28 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter. But, that's when Cameron Redd took over scoring five of his 14 points in the waning moments of the third stanza to make it 55-37 in favor of Garner after three quarters.
The fourth quarter was more of the Garner attack as Coach Gray emptied his bench and everyone saw time as the men of Troy rolled to the 80-49 win.
Garner will be back at home on Monday night in the first round of the Greater Neuse River Conference Tournament. The Trojans will face Harnett Central with tip-off slated for 7:30.
