In week two of the high school football season, Broughton came into Trojan Stadium and defeated the Garner Trojans 21-20, a lot has changed since August 28th and on Friday night Garner showed how much they have improved as they blasted the Capitals 42-9.

Broughton (6-5) got on the board first as Garner gave them a short field. However, the Trojan defense came up big as the Caps had it first in goal from inside the three yard line and had to settle for a 28-yard Hayden Pezzoni field goal and a 3-0 lead.

On the ensuing drive, Garner (10-1) took the ball down the field with a steady diet of the run, and after seven plays, the Trojans had it first and goal from the five yard line. One play later, Tyler Hinton got into the end zone to make it 7-3 Garner, which would be the score after the first quarter.

Garner took their second possession of the second quarter and started from the Broughton 48 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, AJ Clanton took the ball 47 yards down to the one and two plays later, Hinton scored his second touchdown of the night and the Trojans were up 14-3, a lead they took into the locker room.

The Trojans got the ball to begin the second half and picked up right where they left off in the first half. Facing a third and five, Lemond Johnson found Clanton on a screen pass and the Trojan running back rumbled 65 yards into the end zone and made it 21-3.

Following another Broughton punt, it was the Clanton show again as he took the ball 49 yards to the house and another score for a 28-3 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

It took little time for Garner to score in the final stanza as following a Caps punt, Clanton took it in for pay dirt again, this time from 44 yards out and it was 35-3 Trojans.

After the two teams played the field position game for a couple of series, Garner got on the board again for the final time, this time it was a defensive score as Parrish Crowder tried to fire the home run ball, but it was picked off by Davonte Atkinson who returned the punt 55 yards for the final score of the night.

Broughton scored a late touchdown on a pass to Chris Brickhouse and missed the two-point try as the Trojans went on to win 42-9.

With the win, the Trojans advanced to round two of the State Playoffs where they will host the Middle Creek Mustangs at Trojan Stadium next Friday at 7:30.
