Congratulations to the GMHS DECA Club for representing Garner at the district competition on January 8, 2009. About 500 students were in attendance from Wake County and surrounding counties. Christopher LaGant finished in the top 10 of his event. 76% of our students "Met Proficency" and received a certificate on stage. The competition consisted of a computer test, and students were presented with a real world business problem and had to tell their suggestions to a judge. DECA is an association of marketing students .
Earlier this year, the club also raised $1,028.33 for Toys for Tots. This provided toys for about 80 children in Wake and surrounding counties. The students worked very hard to promote the campaign at school, creating flyers, banners, and commercials for the TrojanVision. They volunteered time during their lunches to talk with the student body and collect donations. In conjunction with the NC State football team's Toys for Tots campaign, Wolfpack Sports Marketing did a presentation with the club to share how they promote Toys for Tots and partner with Coca Cola and local Harris Teeters. NCSU donated 20 tickets to the NCSU vs. Georgia Tech basketball game, and they raffled these tickets to the students who made donations. Congratulations to Ms. Howell and the students for their terrific community service!!!!
