Soccer Edges Spartans

It took Garner extra time but the men of Troy eventually broke through and edged the Smithfield-Selma Spartans, 2-1 in overtime on Monday night at Trojan Stadium.

Garner (4-1, 2-1) got on the board first as Adam Gogal scored off a Zach Hancock throw in to give the Trojans an early one goal advantage.

However, SSS game roaring back to knot the game at one heading into the halftime break.

The contest would remain deadlocked through the second half before the Trojans pushed across the game winning goal in overtime.

Garner returns to action on Wednesday night when they travel to West Johnston for a pivotal conference match up. Kick-off is set for 6:30.
