Congratulations to senior Christie Wright on her verbal commitment to Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC to play softball beginning in Fall 2009 for Coach Mandi Balduf. A four year varsity starter, Christie will continue her pitching career in the Division II school that will be joining the CIAA conference beginning next season. Wright was a 2008 4A All-State selection as well as All-District Region 3 by the NC Coaches Association and selected for the State Games as an underclassman team last season. The varsity Trojans have qualified for the NCHSAA play-offs each of the past two seasons including an Elite 8 appearance in 2007. Based on her recent academic performance (4.4 GPA and top 5% ranking) and athletic accomplishments, she has accepted the President's Scholarship based on Merit, the Dean's Scholarship based on Leadership, and an athletic scholarship where she will continue the Garner Tradition of Excellence donning jersey #1 for the Hawks.
