    Senior NC State recruit Morgan Barbour and the Lady Trojan softball team are highlighted in the Feb. 24th issue of the News and Observer. The N&O announces Amanda Beach and Cecily Parrott are being recruited by the Peace College Pacers. The Trojans are ranked 4th in NC.

    Lady Trojan softball team scrimmages Washington

    Coach Moe Barbour's 2008 edition of the mighty Lady Trojan softball team took the field at Trojan Park Saturday under a beautiful blue Garner sky. Nadia Jefferies scores the Trojans lone run in the scrimmage which ended deadlocked 1-1. Coach Barbour and Harris express their gratitude to Washington AD David Daniel (GMHS '77) for the quick rescheduling after the DH Conley scrimmage was washed out. The Trojans open on the road at Middle Creek on Tue. 2/26, 4:30PM.

    SE Raleigh takes the third of three hard fought games against the Trojans (21-3), with a 61-47 win in the GNRC Tournament finals. The Trojans qualify for the NCHSSA Sectionals and will play at home Monday night, 7PM against Fuquay.

    Coach Barnes 2008 edition of the Lady Trojan soccer team took the field in a scrimmage at defending state champions Leesville Road last evening. The Trojans were a school record 16-5 and runner-up in the GNRC. State play-off qualifiers, they advanced to the 3rd round of the NCHSSA Tournament.

    The Lady Trojans put away the #4 seed Comets 62-43, behind Senior Kanita Shepherd's 26 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Trojans will face the Bulldogs tonight at Clayton HS. The 6PM final between the two top seeds is the "rubber match" after the teams split their regular season match-ups.     Knightdale tops the Trojans 73-61. The Trojans rally to cut the Knightdale lead to just 5 at the half on Carl Redd's 3-pointer at the buzzer. The lead is trimmed to just one in the second half before the Knights pull away in the final minute to blow open a close contest and deny Coach Gray his 300th win. Tyrone Williams leads the Trojans with 24. The Trojans (16-8) qualify for the NCHSSA 4A play-offs with a game next Tuesday, location and opponent TBA.

    McManus commits to Catawba

  • Senior Alan McManus has signed with the Catawba Indians to play football in 2008. The Indians were 11-2 and 5-1 in the South Atlantic Conference this year. McManus is also an All-Conference lacrosse player for the Trojans. Alan is the son of Jim and Emma McManus. Congratulations Alan!!!

    Coach Mays' girls varsity (19-2, 13-1 in GNRC) blast Holly Springs 62-24 to lock up the top seed in next week's GNRC tournament. Senior Kanita Shepherd scores 19 and has 13 rebounds, her 8th double-double of the year to lead the blowout:

    Smith to sign with Navy; Morgan to Fork Union

    Senior quarterback Kameron Smith will sign his national letter-of-intent with the Naval Academy on February 7th. The Greater Neuse River offensive player of the year with 1,898 yards passing and 571 rushing, Smith guided the Trojans to a 12-1 record in 2007, advancing to the second round of the NCHSSA 4AA play-offs after spending most of the year near the top of the state 4A rankings. He will join former Trojan football teammate Trey Grissom at Annapolis next fall. The Midshipman were 8-5 this season and earned a Poinsetta Bowl appearance. Their season included a historic 46-44 triple overtime win at Notre Dame. Kameron is the son of Joyce and Garry Smith. Congratulations to Kameron for continuing the Garner Winning Tradition!!

    Congratulations to Senior Paige Dugal who has committed to play soccer next year for N.C. State. Dugal will join former Trojan teammate Kaitlin Wescoe on Head Coach Laura Kerrigan's Lady Wolfpack squad that was 6-10-3 this fall competing in the extremely tough ACC. A 3-year starter for the Trojan soccer team and point guard on the Lady Trojan basketball team, currently 15-1 and ranked 6th in the state 4A poll and runs cross country. Paige is the daughter of Tré and Wendy Dugal. Congratulations Paige for continuing the Garner Winning Tradition!!

    Trojans wrestlers place in GNRC tournament

    The Trojans competed in the GNRC Wrestling Tournament Feb. 1st and 2nd. Trojans placing were:

  • Tyler Mahar 2nd
  • Jesse Gould 3rd
  • Brooks Banks 4th


  • The Trojans wrestled without Joe Bocchino, ranked 12th in NC, who went out with a slight MCL pull in his first match at the Capital City Classic a couple of weeks ago. Coach Bunn hopes he can return by the NCHSSA regionals. The Trojans are 6-19 for the season.

    Kesheria McNeil scores 14 and Kanita Shepherd adds 13 and 10 rebounds as the Lady Trojans blast Knightdale 65-34 to move to 16-1 on the year and remain unbeaten in the conference. The Lady Trojans are ranked 3rd in the local area by WRAL and ranked 6th in the NC:

    Regional Science Olympiad

    On Feb. 12th, Garner hosted the Regional Science Olympiad. Over 2000 students representing over 40 middle and high school teams competed at GMHS in various Science and Engineering events. Our own team had several medal winners:
