Garner scored early and often on Friday night to blow past East Wake 63-6 at Johnny Sasser Stadium for their eighth straight win.
The Trojans (8-2, 6-0) gave the Warriors the football to start the game, however on the third play of the game, Chris Pernell fumbled and Bernard Owens scooped up the football and gave Garner the ball at the Warrior 27. One play later, Lemon Johnson hit Juwan Moye in the corner of the end zone and it was quickly 7-0 Garner.
After a punt by East Wake, Garner used three AJ Clanton runs to score their second touchdown of the night as Clanton scored from three yards out following runs of 38 and 12 on the drive. Garner now had a 14-0 lead.
East Wake (2-8, 2-4) then turned the ball over on downs giving the Trojans the football in the Warrior end once more. After a 16 yard pick up on first down, Tyler Hinton capped the drive with a 20-yard touchdown run a a 21-0 Garner lead midway through the first quarter.
On their next possession, Garner had the ball deep in their own end, but, Clanton rumbled 81 yards down to the 11 yard line and tow plays later, Johnson scored to make it 28-0.
East Wake took the ball again looking for some offense but it would be the Trojan defense that found some offense as Andre Gillispe picked up a fumble and rambled 21 yards for the score and a 35-0 lead which ended the first quarter scoring.
Garner had a long drive that began at the end of the first quarter and continued at the beginning of the second quarter. However, the drive stalled and the Trojans sent Connor Torruella on to try a 45-yard field goal which hit the cross bar and bounced through and a 38-0 lead.
After playing a field position game, East Wake turned the ball over again and Joshua Bullock was right there to pick it up and run 65-yards for another score and it was 45-0 Garner. The Trojans added a 24 yard field goal by Torruella to end the half and take a 48-0 lead to the locker room.
On the first drive of the second half, Garner got a 78-yard kick off return from Juwan Moye to set the Trojans up where two plays later, Demetrius Fairley scored from two yards away and make it 55-0 Garner.
Later, in the third, Garner took over at the East Wake 27 and after a couple of Fairley runs, Hinton scored from two yards and made it 61-0.
The final Garner score came late in the fourth quarter with the Warriors backed up in their own end and on second down and long, Bullock flung down Damian Holder in the end zone for the first safety of the season for the Trojans. East Wake added a late score to make the final score 63-6.
With the win, the Trojans lock up the Greater Neuse River Conference Championship for the first time since 2007!
Garner will cap the regular season next Friday night when they host Harnett Central at Trojan Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7:30
Big First Half Sends Garner to Easy Win
JV Trojans Close Home Schedule with Impressive Win
The JV Football squad returned home on Thursday night as they closed the home portion of their schedule as they took on the East Wake Warriors.
Garner (7-2) started the scoring on the opening drive of the game as the Trojans used a steady diet of Raevon Smith as they moved the ball down the field on six plays before Smith scored from seven yards out to give Garner a 7-0 lead.
East Wake answered right back taking eight plays to get the ball to the Garner 28 yard-line before Trent Evans hit Evan Finch for 28 yards and a touchdown to tie the game at seven and after playing a field position game, the first quarter ended in a seven all tie.
The Trojans began the second quarter with the football as they were in the midst of a drive which was capped with a Greg Stewart touchdown run from a yard out and with just over nine minutes to play in the half, the Trojans were up 14-7.
On the ensuing drive, East Wake had moved the ball to the Trojan 41 yard line, but on the sixth play of the drive, Evans fired over the middle where Smith picked off the pass and rumbled down the side line 90 yards to make it 21-7 Garner after a Tyler White extra point.
The Warriors went three and out on the next drive and Garner took just three plays to get the ball to the East Wake 27 where Smith collected his second offensive score of the night and third total score to make it 28-7 Garner with just over two minutes for the half.
Again, the Trojans forced East Wake to punt on the next drive and on the punt, Armani Lanier fielded the kick and ran it to the house, 40 yards to give Garner a 35-7 halftime lead.
On Garner's first drive of the second half, the Trojans used five run plays which was highlighted by a 12 yard Stewart run to put Garner in a first and goal situation where Vince Jefferies finished the drive on a two-yard quarterback keeper to make it 42-7 Garner.
East Wake took the ensuing kick-off and marched 63 yards in 10 plays to make it 42-13 on a Evans to Finch touchdown pass, the second of the night.
Garner put up one more score which used most of the fourth quarter clock as the Trojans went 75 yards in 12 plays. The big play of the drive was a Brayden Sims catch on third and 15 in which he picked up 21 yards and gave the Trojans the ball at the Warrior 15 yard line. Garner punched it in two plays later as Oloniy "Snoop" Dawson scored to give the Trojans a 49-13 lead.
The Warriors moved the ball down the field on their final drive, but the Connor Earp's pass was picked off in the end zone by Keon Harkins-Muse to preserve the 49-13 win for the Trojans.
Garner will finish their season next Thursday night at 7:00 when they travel to Harnett Central to take on the other set of Trojans.

Soccer Falls on Senior Night
The Varsity Soccer team returned home on Tuesday night for their final home match of the regular season and prior to the contest against East Wake, Garner paused to honor their seniors and to thank them for their effort to the program.
Garner's seniors are: Brian Godwin, Alex Rojas, Will Pittman, Jamar Ortiz, Cory McCormick, Cliff Smith, Chase Morgan, Matt Pollack, Kyle Tobin, Angel Suazo, Felipe Cobix-Lara, and Connor Torruella.
However, once the match started, East Wake caught most of the breaks as the Warriors netted a first half goal to take a 1-0 lead to halftime.
In the second half, the Trojans had several chances to score, but the ball didn't bounce their way and East Wake score two very late second half goals to take the match 3-0.
Garner will close the regular season tomorrow night at 6:30 when they travel to Harnett Central.

Volleyball Falls in Second Round
The Varsity Volleyball team made history on Tuesday night as they hosted a second round playoff match for the first time in school history, the opponent for the Lady Trojans was Pinecrest out of the Southeastern Conference.
It was a tough night for the Lady Trojans as Pinecrest used their height to an advantage as they dropped the first game on the match. Game two, was similar to the first as Garner could not get a rhythm but they hung tough and fell in game two 25-15.
That set up a must win situation for the Lady Trojans and unfortunately the Garner couldn't get past the tough Pinecrest squad as they fell in three games.
Garner's season ends with a 19-5 season and a conference championship. Congratulations to the Lady Trojans for a great season and thanks to the seniors, Morgan Daeke, Hallie Warner, Anna Burton and Ashley Carroll for their great careers and service to the Volleyball program!

Trojans Grindout Win Over Bulldogs
WEB CAST.
It was built as a defensive battle and on Friday night at John Baker Stadium, the game lived up to its hype, but the Garner defense was just a little bit better on Friday night as they defeated Southeast Raleigh 21-10 to remain perfect in the Greater Neuse River Conference.
After a scoreless first quarter, Garner (7-2, 5-0) struck first as they went 99 yards for the games first score. With a steady diet of the run, Garner moved the ball down the field on the Bulldog defense until they had it inside the red zone, however, the defense for Southeast kept the Trojans out of the end zone, until fourth down and goal, when AJ Clanton scored his ninth touch down of the season and after the Connor Torruella point after, Garner had a 7-0 lead.
Southeast Raleigh (6-3, 4-1) came right back and answered as they moved the ball through the air with their junior quarterback, David Washington, however the drive stalled and the Bulldogs settled for a 27 yard Taylor Bets field goal which cut the lead to 7-3 midway through the second quarter.
After the Trojans went three and out on the ensuing drive, Southeast took over at their own 33 and after a short six yard gain, the 'Dawgs went to the air as Washington found Tristan Walker over the middle for a 61-yard touchdown pass and Southeast took a 10-7 lead which they carried into the locker room at halftime.
Just like the first quarter, the games third stanza was another defensive battle filled with turnovers and punts. But, as the quarter began to wind down, Garner had some offensive rhythm going and as the third quarter came to a close, the Trojans had a third and goal from the Bulldog one yard line.
On the opening play of the final quarter, Juwan Moye got the end around and scored from the one and gave the Trojans a 14-10 advantage.
Southeast had a chance on the ensuing drive as they moved the ball down the field but, on third down, the Bulldogs fumbled and Garner recovered at their own 49 yard line.
Once Garner took over after the miscue, it took just three plays for Clanton to find the end zone for the second time on the night and gave the Trojans a 21-10 lead.
Southeast couldn't respond as the Trojan defense was rock solid and kept the Trojans perfect on the road as Garner took control of the Greater Neuse River Conference race.
The Trojans will be back on the road next week as they travel to Johnny Sasser Stadium to take on the East Wake Warriors. Kick-off is set for 7:30.
Time Warner Cable broadcasted the game tonight and it will be available to watch beginning on Sunday morning on channels 199 or 1047 for TWC customers.
JV Trojans Drop Close one to Southeast Raleigh
It was a defensive battle at Trojan Stadium on Thursday night at Trojan Stadium as the JV Trojans welcomed Southeast Raleigh to town for a key conference tilt, unfortunately for the Trojans they couldn't find any offensive rhythm as the Bulldogs defeated Garner 12-7.
After the Trojans couldn't convert on their opening drive of the night, Southeast started from their own 24 yard line and used just three plays to find the end zone using a 64 yard touchdown run to get on the board first. However, the point after was no good so it was just a six point lead early in the first quarter.
After a back and forth first quarter which saw long drives and turnovers, Southeast still had a six point lead. However, on their second drive of the second quarter, the Trojans found the end zone. They began the drive at their own 40 yard line and used just three plays for their first touchdown of the night as Raevon Smith rumbled 42 yards for the score and gave the Trojans a 7-6 lead after Tyler White's point after.
On the ensuing drive for Southeast Raleigh, they used 18 plays to march the ball down the field and had a first and goal on the Trojan nine yard line with just one second left in the half, and on the final play of the second quarter the Bulldogs failed to convert and the teams went to the locker room with Garner leading 7-6.
After another long drive by the Bulldogs to begin the third quarter, the Garner defense held however the offense couldn't find any momentum on the offensive side of the ball and after three it was still 7-6 Garner.
Southeast had the first drive of the game's final quarter and used seven plays to take the ball down the field before another 42 yard touchdown run gave them at 12-7 lead. Southeast elected to attempt a two point try but the Garner defense was solid and with just over eight minutes left in the game, the Trojans still had a shot.
On the ensuing drive, Garner used a steady diet of the run to move the ball to the Bulldog 28 yard line and on fourth down and seven, the Trojans went to the air as Vince Jefferies hit Brayden Sims for a six yard completion, but Garner was just short of the marker and Southeast got the ball back.
Garner's defense again came up big forcing a three and out for Southeast and have great field position following a punt and the Bulldog 40 yard line. But, on the first play of the drive, Jefferies was sacked and the ball came loose and found the arms of a waiting Southeast Raleigh defender. The Bulldogs then ran out the clock to come away with the 12-7 win.
The Trojans return to action next Thursday when the host East Wake at Trojan Stadium with kick-off set for 7:00.

Second Half Rally Powers JV Past Knightdale
It took a while for the JV Trojans to get going on Tuesday night, but in the second half, Garner found their stride as they took control of the Greater Neuse River Conference by defeating Knightdale 52-31 at Trojan Stadium. Thomas Rains Photography
Garner struck first on the opening drive of the game as they marched the ball down the field on the Knightdale defense and after a 12 yard run by Raevon Smith the Trojans had the ball at the Knights 34 yard line. One play later Garner punched it in with a touchdown run from Greg Stewart.
However, Knightdale came right back with a touchdown drive of their own with the big play coming in the passing game when Marcel Johnson hit Marquavious Johnson for a 53 yard play down to the Trojan seven. The Knights punched it in three plays later when Johnson and Johnson hooked up again, but the point after was missed and Garner had a 7-6 lead with just over six minutes in the opening quarter.
On the ensuing kick-off, Garner fumbled and Knightdale recovered at their own 32. After slowly moving the ball on the Trojan defense, the Knights took the lead when Johnson hit Johsua James to put Knightdale up 12-7. When they tried a two-point conversion, the Garner defense stood up big and kept it a five point game.
Garner then marched the ball down the field using an 11 play drive which saw the Trojans convert on fourth down however, with the ball at the Knights 19 yard-line, the drive stalled. But, Tyler White drilled a 29 yard field goal to make it 12-10 Knightdale with 11:10 to play in the half.
The Knights then moved the ball down the field on Garner using an eight play drive to take an 18-10 lead. The big play on the drive came when James broke free for a 47 yard gain down to the two yard line and on the next play Knightdale punched it in, but again the two-point try was no good and the Trojans were still within eight.
The two teams play the field position game for their next several drives, and it looked like Garner would go to the locker room down at the half, but, Johnson's pass was picked off by Carrington Austin who ran it back 45 yards for the score. Garner then decided to try for two and made it when Vince Jefferies hit Anthony Galavotti in the end zone for the score and the game was tied at 18 with 32 seconds left in the half.
Knightdale got a great return on the ensuing kick-off and had the ball at the Garner 38 yard line. On the first play of the drive Johnson kept the football and as the first half buzzer sounded he scampered 38 yards for the touchdown and as the extra point when through Knightdale had a 25-18 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Trojans came out with a new focus and put the game out of reach. After Knightdale when three and out on their first drive of the half, Garner took the ball at the Knightdale 16 yard line after a shank punt.
Back to back running plays put the Trojans at the Knights four yard line before Smith scored his second touchdown of the night and tied the game at 25.

Trojans BLAST Spartans to Cap Homecoming
WEB CAST
Garner scored early and often on Friday night as they routed Smithfield-Selma 73-0 to win their sixth straight win and with the win, the Trojans have now won their 26th consecutive homecoming game.
After SSS took the opening kick-off into Trojan territory, the Garner defense came up big picking off the Adam Driver pass to give Garner the ball. After a couple of big plays moved the Trojans into the red zone, the drive stalled and Garner had to settle for a Connor Torruella Field Goal and a early 3-0 lead.
That lead grew to 10 on the next Trojan drive as Lemond Johnson found Bryan Watkins for a 26 yard touchdown pass and a quick 10-0 Trojan lead.
On the very next drive for Garner, they took over deep in the SSS end and it didn't take long as Johnson found Damian Ellis for the 10-yard touchdown and the first touchdown catch of the year for Ellis and it was very quickly 17-0 Garner.
Once again Garner found pay dirt on their next drive as AJ Clanton found the end zone for the first time in the game as he scored from two yards out and it was 24-0 in favor of the home team.
The ensuing SSS drive end poorly for the Spartans as Adam Driver's pass was picked off by Justin Chavis who ran it back 20 yards to make it 31-0 Garner. The final score of the first half came on the final drive of the half as Marques Townsend found the end zone from two yards out and give Garner a 38-0 halftime lead.
At halftime the results of the floats were announced: The Juniors took first, Freshman were second, Seniors finished third and the Sophomores were fourth.
Also, Lesley Caldera was crowned as the homecoming queen, Sammie Shelton was the king, Ty Maultsby was the princess and Trever Lee was named the Prince.

The third quarter continued with Garner scoring on a Shaquille Nuriddin punt return for a TD which made it 66-0 after the third stanza.

Trojans Shutout Knightdale to Earn Fifth Straight
WEB CAST
Garner's win over Knightdale on Friday night didn't earn the Trojans many style points, but they got the job done as they defeated the Knights 22-0.
After each team had their first drive stall, Garner (5-2, 3-0) went back to work at their own 31 yard-line where they used a steady diet of the run and mixed in a couple of passes to get the ball into the red zone, where Lemond Johnson fired his eighth touch down pass of the season as he found Bryan Watkins for the touchdown and Garner was up 7-0.
Knightdale (1-6, 1-2) moved the ball on their next drive using a whole lot of misdirection running, however, the drive stalled after Knightdale failed to convert on fourth down. After that failed attempt, each team turned the ball over as they contest became sloppy on the wet turf.
However, the Trojans found some offense on their next drive as the moved the ball down the field after a Knightdale turnover, the drive came to an end and prompted Garner bring on the kicking team, where Connor Torruella nailed a 35 yard Field Goal and the Trojans took a 10-0 lead midway through the first half.
Knightdale had a chance to put some points on the board late in the half as they had the ball deep in Trojan territory, but out of timeouts Knightdale squandered chances as they left the ball sitting at the two yard line and sending the game to the half with Garner up 10-0.
On the first drive of the second half, Garner used 11 plays and marched the ball down the field before Johnson used a quarterback keeper to push the Trojan lead to 16-0 after the point after failed.
The game became very sloppy after the Garner touchdown and the teams struggled to find any momentum, but, Garner put the game away halfway through the fourth when AJ Clanton scored from four yards giving Garner a 22-0 lead.
Knightdale couldn't get anything going on offense and the Trojans keep the winning streak alive heading into play next week. Garner will be back at home for Homecoming 2010, as the Trojans will host Smithfield-Selma Friday night with kick-off set for 7:30.
