Garner Closes Regular Season in Fine Fashion

Garner concluded the high school football regular season on Friday night and wrapped up the Greater Neuse River Conference championship with a 56-14 road victory over Harnett Central.

Garner (11-0, 7-0) wasted no time getting on the board on its first possession of the night, Tyler Hinton broke free and rumbled in for a 23-yard score and an early seven point lead. That lead grew to two scores on the Trojans next possession when Raevon Smith got in on the action scoring on a 35 yard scamper and a 14-0 advantage for Garner. 

Still clicking on all cylinders, Smith found pay dirt on the next Garner drive this time from 10 yards out and a 21-0 lead. After the offense sputtered, Brighton Hudson fired his first career touchdown pass to Terry Gilman for a 28-0 lead.

On the ensuing kick-off, Harnett Central (3-7, 2-5) got on the board when Anfrenee Hunter found a seem down the sideline and bolted to the end zone for a 75 yard score and a 28-7 Garner lead after the opening quarter.

Unfortunately for Central they could not slow down the Trojan offense as Garner answered right back with another Hudson touchdown pass, this time to Armani Lanier and a 35-7 lead.

Following a Central punt, Nyheim Hines found some open field and blistered the Central defense for a 54 yard spurt and a 42-7 advantage.

The men of Troy found the end zone once more during the first half as Hudson connected with Brayden Sims for his the third touchdown pass of the night for the sophomore and a 49-7 Garner lead at the break.

In the second half, the contest slowed as each team added another score, for garner it was a Dakota Labau touchdown run from five yards out for a 56-7 lead.

Central added a late touchdown for the final 56-14 margin.

For Garner they lock up the 18 conference championship of Nelson Smith's career.

The Trojans will return home next week at 7:30 in the opening round of the 4-AA State Playoffs when they will host Athens Drive at Trojan Stadium.

Additionally, it was announced on Saturday afternoon that Garner would be the number one seed in the 4-AA east bracket meaning the Trojans will have homefield advantage through the regional final.

JV Football Smacks Harnett Central; Crowned Champions

After a rocky start to the season, Garner's junior varsity football team bounced back in a big way, winning its final six games including a 48-6 bombardment of Harnett Central on Thursday night at Trojan Stadium, which earned the men of Troy another conference championship.

Garner (7-3, 6-1) opened the scoring on its second drive of the contest when Jaykwon Harris found some room on the outside and rumbled in from 11 yards out and a seven point lead.

Harnett Central fumbled on its ensuing possession leading giving the Trojans great starting position for another drive which ended in pay dirt once again. On the sixth play of the drive, Tyreece Taylor shed tackles and rolled into the end zone for a 13-0 advantage after the extra point was missed.

Central found its way in for a score on the next drive, but the two point conversion was no good and as a result, the homestanding Trojans led 13-6.

Garner answered right back and took a 20-6 lead after a five play drive for the score. Justin Robbins hit David Hamilton on a 34-yard pass play down to the Central four yard line which set up a touchdown run from Taylor on the following play.

After Central punted the football going three and out, Hamilton got loose on the first play of the next possession and sprinted down the field, 75-yard for another score and a 27-6 advantage. However, the first half scoring was not over for the Trojans as Hamilton scored his second touchdown of the night, this time from 15 yards and after an Austin Marbrey extra point, Garner led 34-6 heading into the halftime break.

The second half was more of the same as the men of Troy added a pair of scores, one from Austin Holland from 22 yards out and Khaliq Woods capped the scoring with a 24 yard scamper and the final 48-6 margin of victory.

Bowling Splits with Broughton

The Garner bowling teams split a pair of match with the Broughton Capitals on Wednesday afternoon.

Team A won 35 out of a possible 41 points for a 35-6 victory. Meanwhile, Team B won 15 out of 41 points, but fell in the match 26-15.

Kori Smith paced the Trojans, bowling a  259 with nine consecutive strikes and followed that up with a 248.

Volleyball Falls to Ashley

Garner's varsity volleyball squad accomplished a lot over the 2012 season, however the ultimate goal came up just short as the lady Trojans dropped a 3-1 decision to Wilmington Ashley on Tuesday night inside Trojan Coliseum.

Ashley took the opening two games of the match, 25-18 and 25-21 before Garner (22-4) came storming back in the third game to eek out a 25-22 victory. But it wasn't enough as the Eagles found its stride in the fourth game to defeat Garner 25-15 and advance to the third round of the playoffs.

Kristen Powell and Ka'asha Jefferies both finished the match with double figure kills achieving 10 on the evening. Kelsey Bryan also played a huge part in the match for the lady Trojans finishing with seven of Garner's 34 kills.

Meanwhile, the lady Trojans could only manage seven service aces on the match but they were paced by Courtney Weathersbee who finished with four.

Garner concludes its season with the best record in school history and once again had the conference player of the year in Kristen Powell.

Trojans Capture First Ever Conference Crown

For the first time in school history, Garner can call themselves soccer conference champions. The men of Troy captured the crown with an 8-2 road victory over Southeast Raleigh on Monday night inside John Baker Stadium.

Garner (13-2-1, 10-2-1) wasted no time getting going in the match pounding the Bulldogs in a contest that was never close. Meanwhile Kenneth Perkinson once again provided outstanding defense in the goal for the Trojans.

The men of Troy return home on Wednesday night at 6:30 when they host Harnett Central for Senior Night.  Garner will close the regular season on Thursday night when they travel to Fuquay-Varina at 6:30.

Volleyball Advances in Playoffs

After capturing the Greater Neuse River crown, the varsity volleyball team moved into the playoffs and managed to grind out a three games to one victory over Wilmington Laney High School on Saturday afternoon inside Trojan Coliseum.

Garner (22-3) took the opening game of the match 25-20 while Laney bounced back and took a 25-20 victory in the second game. However that would be all the Buccneers would get as the lady Trojans took the third game 25-17 before truncating the match with a 25-20 win the the fourth and decisive match.

Kristen Powell hammered 28 kills of Garner's 50 kills on the match. Kelsey Bryan also achieved double figure kills with 11. Courtney Weathersbee, Ka'asha Jefferies and Sarah Pierce all had three.

Additionally, Powell and Elena Mast both had a pair of service aces as Garner finished the match with seven. 

The victory for the lady Trojans sets a new school record with 22 wins as they advance to the second round of the playoffs on Tuesday night when they welcome the Ashley Eagles (17-5) to Trojan Coliseum. First serve for the match is set for 5:00.

Trojans Dominate Bulldogs to Stay Perfect

On a night where an era came to an end, the Garner Trojans used a stingy defense and high powered first half to defeat rival Southeast Raleigh 28-6 on Friday night inside Trojan Stadium.

Garner (10-0, 6-0) opened the scoring on its second possession of the night as Tyler Hinton took a hand-off any plowed his way into the end zone for the first score of the contest.

Following a three and out by Southeast Raleigh (5-5, 2-4), the Trojan offense went back to work and strung together a nice drive that appeared like it would stall inside the red zone as Garner faced a third and goal from the Bulldog 22-yard line; but that did not stop the Trojans as Vince Jefferies hit Nyheim Hines over the middle for a score and a 14-0 lead for the home team.

Both teams traded punts and turnovers over the next couple of possessions but just when they needed it, the Garner offense went back to work and matriculated the ball down the field using a 12-play, 69-yard drive to hang another score on the board. The possession was capped when Jefferies fired toward the end zone where he was looking for Brayden Sims but the ball was tipped into the air and fell into the waiting arms of  Armani Lanier for the score and a 21-0 advantage as the two teams went to the locker room for halftime.

Both defense dominated the third quarter while several penalties on both squads truncated any momentum the offense's had gained. However, the Trojans hung their final score on the board early in the fourth when Jefferies dove in from a yard out and the 28-0 lead.

Southeast Raleigh got on the board late in the fourth wen Cameron Marshmon hit Aschod Meeks-Ewing in the end zone for the score and the final 28-6 margin.

For the Trojans, it marks the 30th consecutive regular season victory which is the longest in 4-A football. Additionally, the men of Troy improve to 15-2 all-time against its rival.

Garner returns to action next week in the penultimate game of the regular season when they travel to Angier to battle with Harnett Central, kick-off is slated for 7:00.

Volleyball Captures Conference Crown

The West Johnston Wildcats entered Trojan Coliseum on a nice run through the Greater Neuse River conference tournament and was ready for another intense match-up with the defending conference champions, Garner Trojans (21-3). The Trojans trailed early in the first set 8-5 but Kelsey Bryan had a nice kill to tie it up at nine. Ka'asha Jefferies and Bryan made some nice digs and gave the Trojans the lead midway through the set at 12-11. The defense was just outstanding and nice blocks at the net by Trojans Captain Kristen Powell and Jefferies helped finish off the Wildcats 25-19 in the first set.

In the second set, West Johnston started strong with a nice kill by Halle Eicher to tie the second set at six. Then the Trojans battle back as Sarah Pierce and Bryan make strong kills to give Garner the 12-8 advantage. Powell dominated in the second set with several nice kills and blocks to give the Trojans the win at 25-13 in the second set.

Up by two sets, Powell started strong giving the Trojans the early lead at 3-2, but Eboni Robinson from West Johnston has a nice dig and kill to even the third set at seven. Megan Gibbons has a strong kill and helps keep West Johnston tied up at 13. Courtney Weathersbee then took over with four aces and amazing hustle and dig by Maddy Stewart to extend the lead to 23-18. Jefferies followed with an ace on the next play, and Bryan provided the final kill as it deflects off the Wildcats defender for the win at 25-20 and championship.

Garner records their 51st straight conference win and won all 51 sets they played inside the conference this season. 

Head Coach Jason Boyette said "the defense was just great, and we had a good finish here tonight. I was impressed with Courtney serving and helped put us in a good position to win!" Weathersbee finished with eight service aces and while Powell finished the game with 15 of the teams 31 kills.

Garner will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Laney in the opening round of the state playoffs. First serve from Trojan Coliseum is slated for 1:00 p.m.

Volleyball Moves on to Finals

After defeating Knightdale on Saturday morning to move to the semi-finals of the Greater Neuse River Conference tournament, Garner made short work of East Wake on Monday night inside Trojan Coliseum to advance to the championship match of the tournament on Wednesday evening.

Garner (20-3) downed the Warriors 25-16, 25-12 and 25-11 to keep its perfect record inside GNRC play in tact.

The lady Trojans blistered home 32 kills on the match, 13 of which came from Senior Kristen Powell while Ka'asha Jefferies added six and Courtney Weathersbee added five.

Garner also had five services aces with Powell and Weathersbee chipping in a pair and Senior Elena Mast providing the other.

With the victory Garner will advance to Wednesday's championship when they take on the Clayton/SE Raleigh winner inside Trojan Coliseum. First serve is set for 6:00.

Volleyball blanks Knightdale to advance

Garner continued its dominance of the Greater Neuse River Conference on Saturday morning, defeating Knightdale three games to none in the opening round of the conference tournament.

The lady Trojans (19-3, 15-0), dominated all three games against the Knights winning 25-4, 25-12 and 25-7.

Kristen Powell knocked home 11 of Garner's 26 kills on the match. Ka'asha Jefferies also had six kills followed by three from Sarah Pierce, and Courtney Weathersbee. 

Another key in the match for Garner was the 25 service aces led by 10 from the right arm of Weathersbee and six from Kelsey Bryan. 

The lady Trojans advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament on Monday night inside Trojan Coliseum. Game time is still TBA.

Trojans Joust Knights; Remain in Catbird Seat

After falling behind by a quick touchdown, Garner responded with 42 unanswered points and cruised past Knightdale, 42-7 win at Trojan Stadium to remain atop the Greater Neuse River Conference.

Knightdale (6-2, 4-1) scored on its first possession of the game as Marquavious Johnson busted off a 75-yard touchdown run up the middle for an early lead.

However, that proved to be the loan highlight of the night for the Knights as Garner (9-0, 5-0) answered on the ensuing possession as Tyler Hinton capped a 13 play drive to make it 7-6 after the extra point was blocked.

The Trojan offense struck again on its next touch of the football as Vince Jefferies found daylight down the seem and busted off a 28 yard run and a 12-7 lead for Garner after a two-point conversion attempt failed. On the ensuing Knights possession, backed up deep in its own end Knightdale elected to punt the football. However, Rae Britton had other ideas as he blocked his second punt of the year, out of the end zone and a 14-7 lead for Garner early in the second stanza.

Following a free kick from Knightdale, it took the Trojans just three plays to score again as Jefferies hit Armani Lanier for a 26 yard touchdown pass and a 21-7 advantage for the blue and gold.

Garner punched it in one more time before the half expired as Jefferies found Lanier for the second time in the game and the ninth time this season for a 63 yard score and a 27-7 halftime advantage.

During the break, the homecoming court was announced (finally). Congratulations to Julius Barnes who was named Prince, Lydia Milhouse was named princess. Wigi Ramous was crowned king and Ty Maultsby was named homecoming queen.

Back to the game, he second half began with the Trojans owning possession of the football and wasted no time getting back on the board. Once again it was a 13 play drive for the Trojans that milked the clock and thwarted the hopes of the Knights as Jefferies hit Terry Gilman for his third touchdown pass of the night and a 35-7 lead.

Garner's final score of the evening came late in the third quarter and again, it was the Trojan special teams that made the play.

Facing a fourth down from their own five yard line Taylor Betts was forced to punt again and just like the first half, Britton swatted the football away and after a few bounces it was recovered in the end zone by Tre Perry for the final score of the night.

The 42-7 victory for the Trojans is the 29th straight regular season victory for Garner, the longest active streak in 4A.

Garner returns to action next week when the welcome Southeast Raleigh to Trojan Stadium, it will be hall of fame night as the 2013 class of the Garner Hall of Fame will be introduced. Kick-off is slated for 7:00

Volleyball Procures Senior Night Victory

Garner closed the regular season on Thursday evening inside Trojan Stadium and did what they've don for the last 13 conference matches, sweep the match as they defeated Harnett Central 3-0 inside Trojan Coliseum.

Garner (18-3, 14-0) honored its three seniors, Kristen Powell, Maddy Stewart and Elena Mast prior to the contest with Central and then promptly disposed of the other set of Trojans, 25-15, 25-9 and 25-16.

On the evening, the lady Trojans had 51 kills, led by 24 from Powell and 12 from Ka'asha Jefferies, Kelsey Bryan also added eight while Sarah Pierce chipped in four kills for Garner.

Also, Garner slammed home eight service aces led by four from Courtney Weathersbee. Bryan, Mast, Stewart, and Jefferies all had one each. 

The lady Trojans finished the Greater Neuse River conference regular season without dropping a set inside conference play.

Garner's season continues on  Saturday when they begin conference tournament play at Knightdale High School.

Soccer Smacks Spartans

The varsity soccer squad recorded another victory on Wednesday night defeating Smithfield-Selma 4-1 at Charles Tucker Stadium.

Garner (10-2-1, 6-2-1) received goals from Taylor Stephens, Zach Hancock and Luis Resendiz.

Once again, Kenneth Perkinson provided a stellar effort in goal for the Trojans who remain atop to Greater Neuse River.

The men of Troy are back in action on Monday when they host West Johnston at 6:30 inside Trojan Stadium.

Volleyball Earns Milestone Victory

The varsity volleyball squad captured yet another Greater Neuse River Conference victory on Tuesday night when the swept Southeast Raleigh three games to none for the road win, however this was was special victory.

Garner (17-3, 13-0) won the opening game of the match 25-11 followed by a 25-14 and 25-19 wins to sweep yet another match and give head coach Jason Boyette his 100th career victory as the head coach of the Lady Trojans.

Kristen Powell once again paced Garner with 15 of the teams 31 kills. Courtney Weathersbee also chipped in five kills while Elena Mast added six service aces for the lady Trojans.

Garner will honor their senior athletes on Thursday night at 5:30 when they host Harnett Central inside Trojan Coliseum for the penultimate game of the regular season.

Trojans Spoil Party to Stay Perfect

West Johnston celebrated Homecoming on Friday night and Garner made short to spoil the party with a 56-7 thrashing of the Wildcats.

However, the Trojans didn't get out of the gate like head coach Nelson Smith would have liked a4-0s Justin Carroll found Jonathan Stevens on the first play from scrimmage and he sprinted 69-yards for the score and an early 7-0 lead for West Johnston (2-5, 1-3).

That would be as close as the Wildcats would get as Garner (8-0, 4-0) came storming back and knotted the score when Vince Jefferies hit Armani Lanier with a touchdown pass down the sideline for the game tying score.

On their next possession the Trojans took a lead they would not relinquish as Garner marched the ball down the field and eventually scored on Jefferies second touchdown run of the season to make it 14-7 for the visitors.  West got the ball back following possession and had just one play before Jeremie Bolobiongo scooped up a fumble and rumbled 44-yards for a score.

Garner's punched it in two more times in the opening half when Nyehim Hines and Raevon Smith both found pay dirt and a 35-7 lead for the men of Troy at recess.

The games second half was more of the same as the Trojans opened the second half with another Jefferies to Lanier connection (the seventh time they've connected for a score this season).

Later in the games third quarter, Hines broke free once again, this time from 66-yards out as we waltzed into the end zone for another score. Garner added the exclamation point early in the fourth quarter when Montel Watters made two men miss and rumbled in for the score.

It wasn't just the offense that played well for the Trojans; Garner's defense forced three fumbles and had a pair of interceptions on the evening as they coasted to the 56-7 victory.

Garner returns to action next Friday night when they welcome the Knightdale Knights to Trojan Stadium. It will be Pop Warner Night and players and cheerleaders wearing their Pop Warner uniforms will receive free admission to the game. Additionally, the announcement of homecoming court will be made at halftime. Kick-off for the contest is slated for 7:00.

Garner Sweeps Knights and Clinch Championship

Facing its third match of the week, Garner once again made short work of its opponent downing Knightdale three games to none to lock up the lady Trojans fourth straight Greater Neuse River Conference Championship.

Garner (16-3, 12-0) took the opening game of the match 25-12 followed by a 25-7 thumping in the second game before the match ended with a 25-17 victory for the lady Trojans.

Once again, Garner was able to smack 30 plus kills on the match, finishing with 35 on the night paced by 15 from Kristen Powell. Kelsey Bryan added eight while Courtney Weathersbee added four.

Additionally, the lady Trojans finished the match with 18 aces led by 11 from Powell. Elena Mast and Bryan both chipped in a pair of aces as did Weathersbee.

The victory is the fourth consecutive regular season championship. Garner will hit the road on Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 when they take on Southeast Raleigh.

JV Football Rolls Past West Johnston

Garner scored 26 unanswered points and built a commanding lead and never looked back on Thursday night to cruise past West Johnston 46-12 at Trojan Stadium.

The Trojans (4-3, 2-2) fell behind on the first drive of the game from West Johnston as the Wildcats reeled off a 12-play 70 yard drive to take an early 6-0 lead. However, the Trojans bounced right back with a four play drive as David Hamilton scampered 40 yards for the score and following an Austin Marbery extra point, the Trojans led 7-6.

After the two teams traded punts, West Johnston gave Garner up an easy score to the Trojans as Andrew Abrom picked off a pass and sprinted down the far sideline 47-yards to the house for a 13-6 Garner lead.

Early in the second stanza, Garner got the ball at its own 30 and it took just one play for Tyreece Taylor to rumbled 70-yards for another score and a 20-6 Trojan lead. That advantage ballooned to 20 points on Garner's next drive when the Trojans Jaykon Harris found a gap and ran 10 yards for a score.

After West return the ensuing kick-off back for a touchdown, the men of Troy answered right back with a nine play, 60-yard drive and capped the drive on a Taylor score and a 33-12 halftime lead for the Trojans.

In the second half, Taylor and Michael Robertson both added scoring runs for the Trojans and the final, 46-12 margin.

Garner will return to action next Thursday when they travel to Knightdale and a 6:30 kick-off with the Knights.

Volleyball Blanks Central

In the middle game of a three game week for the varsity volleyball squad, they made short work of Harnett Central earning a three games to none victory on Wednesday night in a match that a make up for a contest which was rained out earlier in the season.

Garner (15-3, 11-0) blasted Central in all three games of the match winning 25-4 in the opening game followed by a 25-7 win and finally truncating the match with a 25-9 thumping of Central.

After knocking home 30 kills last night, the lady Trojans had 37 kills in the road victory on Wednesday. Once again, Kristen Powell paced Garner with 11 kills followed by eight from Ka'asha Jefferies. Additionally, Kelsey Bryan added six kills and Sarah Pierce hammed five kills. Madison Stewart and Courtney Weathersbee had four and three respectively.

Weathersbee also added five service aces, Powell added four and Elena Mast chipped in three aces for the Lady Trojans.

Garner returns to the hardwood tomorrow night at 5:30 when they travel to Knightdale.

50/50 Raffle Update

Due to the rain that was experienced during the homecoming football game against Smithfield-Selma, the Trojan Club announced that the 50/50 raffle pot will carry over to the Trojans next home game on October 12 vs. Knightdale.

Soccer Shuts Down Comets

After a tie with Harnett Central earlier in the week, the varsity soccer squad notched another tally in the win column with a 2-0 victory over the Clayton Comets.

Garner (9-2-1, 5-2-1) got a first half goal from Kody Kamphuis as the men of Troy took a one goal lead into the halftime break.

In the games second stanza, Marco Perez blasted home another score for a two goal lead for the Trojans.

That would be more than enough for keeper Kenneth Perkinson who pitched another shutout for Garner.

The men of Troy return to action on Monday night at 6:30 when they host East Wake at Trojan Stadium.

Volleyball Sinks Wildcats

In the first of three matches this week, the varsity volleyball squad jump started its week with a three games to none victory over West Johnston inside Trojan Coliseum on Tuesday night.

Garner (14-3, 10-0) opened the match with a 25-16 victory followed by a hard fought 25-21 win and final closing things out with a 25-13 win.

The Lady Trojans pounded West Johnston with 30 kills on the match with 10 in the first and 11 in the second. UNC-Wilmington commit, Kristen Powell paced Garner with 13 kills followed by six from Kelsey Bryan and four by Ka'asha Jefferies. 

 Powell also contributed four service aces while Bryan, Courtney Weathersbee, Elena Mast and Madison Stewart all added one for Garner.

Coach Boyette's squad returns to conference action on Wednesday when they travel to Harnett Central for a 5:30 match. The contest is a makeup from a game which was rained out earlier in the season.

Only Mother Nature Stops Trojans in Homecoming Win

The only thing that stopped Garner on Friday night at Trojan Stadium was Mother Nature. The Trojans racked up 34 points over the first 22 minutes of the football game but would score no more as rain and lighting ended the homecoming game against Smithfield-Selma before the game reached the halfway point.

Garner (7-0, 3-0) took the opening drive of the contest and marched down the field on the Spartan defense and scored in just 1:22 as Reavon Smith marched in from seven yards out for the early lead.

Smithfield-Selma (0-7, 0-3) went three an out on its opening drive of the game and the Trojans then blocked the punt of Chris Parker before the Spartans recovered at their own 13 yard line. But it took the men of Troy just three plays to score as Kenneth Perkinson nailed a 27-yard field goal and gave Garner a 10-0 advantage.

The Trojans scored again on its next possession as Nyheim Hines got in on the action with an 11-yard scamper to make it 17-0, Garner.

After a Spartan fumble was recovered at the six yard line, Tyler Hinton found pay dirt rumbling in from six yards out and a 24-0 Garner lead at the end of the opening quarter. 

The men of Troy had a pair of scores before the game was truncated due to weather as Smith found the end zone on a 29-yard run and Perkinson booted a 23-yard field goal for the final 34-0 margin.

For the Trojan defense, it marks the second time in three games that Garner has pitched a shut out while SSS finished the game with -9 yards on the contest.

Due to the weather issue this evening, all of Garner's homecoming activities, including the announcement of homecoming court will be moved to halftime of the Knightdale game on October 12.

Garner returns to action on Friday night when they travel to Benson to host West Johnston, kick-off is set for 7:00.

Volleyball Slams Spartans

Garner made short work of Smitfhield-Selma on Tuesday night as the disposed of the Spartans in three games to move its conference winning streak to 44 games.

The Lady Trojans (13-3, 9-0) took the opening game of the match, 25-9 followed by a 25-13 decision in the second game and then a 25-11 shackling in the final set of the match.

Kills helped propel the Trojans to victory as they had 41 of them on the match including two players in double figures. Kristen Powell with 12 and Ka'asha Jefferies had 10. Additionally, Courtney Weathersbee had six and Madison Stewart had five kills as did Kelsey Bryan.

The Lady Trojans also had 18 service aces. Weathersbee led the way with six, Jefferies had four and Bryan had four.

Garner will return to action on  Tuesday when they host West Johnston at Trojan Coliseum.

Volleyball Tops East Wake

Garner continued its winning ways inside the Greater Neuse River conference with a three game sweep of East Wake on Tuesday evening inside Trojan Coliseum.

The Lady Trojans used the contest against East Wake to raise money for Relay for Life by sporting pink jerseys to help raise awareness.

Garner (12-3, 8-0) took the opening game of the match 25-17 before taking a 25-8 victory in the second game before blasting a 25-6 win in the games final set to sweep East Wake.

The lady Trojans had 25 kills on the match including 13 by Kristen Powell who led the Garner followed by four kills each from Maddison Stewart and Ka'asha Jefferies. 

 Additionally, Garner had 12 service aces and all but one came from Courtney Weathersbee.

The Lady Trojans will step outside of conference play tomorrow when they travel to Athens Drive with first serve slated for 5:30, the JV match will begin at 4:30.



 

Soccer Blanks Bulldogs

Garner got their second shutout in as many days as the men of Troy defeated rival Southeast Raleigh, 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

The Trojans (7-2, 4-2) got a pair of goals from Taylor Stephens as Garner took the lead and never looked back.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Perkinson added another shutout in goal for the men of Troy who are now tops in the Greater Neuse River Conference.

Garner is back in action on Monday when they travel to Harnett Central. The varsity match will begin at 6:30 preceded by the JV contest at 4:30.

Garner soccer jump started the homecoming week festivities on Monday night with a 5-1 jousting of Knightdale inside Trojan Stadium.

The Trojans (6-2, 3-2) had three different players find the back of the net, Taylor Stephens, Zach Hancock and Tom Dinka.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Perkinson provided another stellar performance in goal for the men of Troy.

Hines, Trojans Dominate Warriors

After falling behind by a touchdown in the early going, Garner's Nyheim Hines put on a show for the crowd at Johnny Sasser Stadium, scoring four total touchdowns as the Trojans coasted past East Wake 41-14 on Friday night.

East Wake (0-6, 0-2) won the coin toss and promptly marched the ball down the field nine plays on the Garner defense and cashed in as Trent Evans hit Evan Finch for a 41-yard touchdown and a seven point Warriors lead.

But, Garner (6-0, 2-0) answered back on its debut possession of the contest. The Trojans established their rushing attack before Hines capped the drive with an 11 yard touchdown run to knot the game.

After a missed field goal from East Wake's John Adams, Vince Jefferies hit Hines from nine yards out for a 14-7 lead. Late in the first half, Garner added another score when Jefferies found Hines again. However, it was the super sophomore who did most of the work on the bubble screen, dodging tackles and speeding down the field for a 14 point, 21-7 Garner lead at halftime.

The men of Troy got the football to start the second half and promptly marched down the field with a steady diet of the rush before Reavon Smith got in on the scoring action with a scamper to pay dirt and a 28-7 lead.

Garner's lead grew to 35-7 when Hines ended his night with a modest four yards away. The Trojans final score came through the air when Jefferies hit Armani Lanier in the back of the end zone for a 41-7 lead.

East Wake added a late score for the final 41-14 margin and keep their skid to the Trojans in tact. The Warriors have not defeated the men of Troy since the 2004 season.

Garner will return home next week for homecoming when they host Smithfield-Selma inside Trojan Stadium, kick-off is slated for 7:00

JV Football Rallies Past East Wake

Garner fell behind by a 20-7 margin early in the second half on Thursday night but rallied back to score 20 unanswered points and defeat East Wake 27-20 at Trojan Stadium.

East Wake (0-6, 0-2) took an early 14-7 lead before the teams headed into the locker room and on its second possession of the third quarter, the Warriors pushed across another touchdown on just two plays for the 20-7 lead.

However, Garner (2-3, 1-1) rallied back on the ensuing possession. Justin Robbins hit David Hamilton in stride down the far sideline for a 70-yard touchdown and make the score 20-13 East Wake.

The Trojan defense then followed and forced East Wake into a three and out and the Garner offense went back to work. With a short track in front of them,  Robbins found Jamison Brown for a 14 yard pick up through the air which set up a Tyreece Taylor six yard run to pay dirt and after an Austin Marbery extra point, the score was deadlocked at 20.

Both teams traded defensive stands before the men of Troy pushed across the eventual game-winning score.  Taylor found a seem on the second play of the drive and rumbled 17 yards ahead of a reverse play to Hamilton who found a block and scored from 17-yards away to make it 27-20.

The Warriors still had a chance as they were driving into Trojan territory, but, on a fourth down pass,  Tyler Horton picked off the pass and took it the other way and after Garner salted away the clock the Trojans earned the 27-20 victory.

Garner returns to action next Thursday when they travel to Charles T. Tucker Stadium to take on Smithfield-Selma with kick-off slated for 6:30.  

Volleyball Sweeps Clayton

After a loss to Fuquay-Varina earlier in the week, Garner got back to its winning ways and moved the Greater Neuse River win streak to 41 straight games with a three games to none road victory over Clayton.

Garner (11-3, 7-0) took the opening game of the match 25-18 before earning an 25-19 victory in the second game and the match was truncated following a 25-17 third game win.

The Lady Trojans had 35 kills on the night led by Kristen Powell with 17. Ka'asha Jefferies contributed seven kills while Kelsey Bryan added five and Sarah Pierce chipped in three kills for Garner.

Additionally, Courtney Weathersbee had three service aces while Maddy Stewart had two. 

Coach Boyette's squad returns to action on Tuesday night at 5:30 when they host East Wake inside Trojan Coliseum.



 

Soccer Falls to West

Garner's second conference loss of the season was another tough pill to swallow as the Trojans fell to West Johnston, 4-2 in overtime on Wednesday night at West.

The Trojans fell behind by a single goal 19 minutes into the match but rallied to knot the score when Taylor Stephens pushed a goal past the Wildcats keeper.

Later in the first half, Stephens, struck again to put the men of Troy ahead by a goal, 2-1. However, that would be as close as Garner would get as West scored a goal in the second half to tie the game and later put two goals home in overtime for the 4-2 victory.

The JV team came up with a 4-0 road win over West Johnston on Wednesday night.

JV Football Hosts Middle School Night

Head JV Coach Ronnie Lee and his staff would like to welcome all middle schooler's to the Trojans game against East Wake on Thursday night at Trojan Stadium.

Any middle school football player wearing their jersey to the game on Thursday night will receive free admission to the contest with the Warriors.

Kick-off is slated for 6:30.

Soccer Edges Spartans

It took Garner extra time but the men of Troy eventually broke through and edged the Smithfield-Selma Spartans, 2-1 in overtime on Monday night at Trojan Stadium.

Garner (4-1, 2-1) got on the board first as Adam Gogal scored off a Zach Hancock throw in to give the Trojans an early one goal advantage.

However, SSS game roaring back to knot the game at one heading into the halftime break.

The contest would remain deadlocked through the second half before the Trojans pushed across the game winning goal in overtime.

Garner returns to action on Wednesday night when they travel to West Johnston for a pivotal conference match up. Kick-off is set for 6:30.

Trojans Keep Streak Alive against Comets

Garner had not lost a game to the Clayton Comets since the 1985 season and on Friday night at Trojan Stadium, the current group of Trojans ensured Nelson Smith would go out a winner against the Comets as the men of Troy pitched their first shut out against Clayton since the 1999 season with a 28-0 victory.

The Trojans (5-0, 1-0) took the opening possession of the contest and promptly put together an 18-play, 80 yard scoring drive which took almost eight minutes off the first quarter clock. The drive was capped with Raevon Smith's five yard touchdown run and after a Kenneth Perkinson extra point, Garner led by seven and the end of the first quarter.

Garner's lead would grow to two scores right before the end of the half when Vince Jefferies connected with Armani Lanier for a 30-yard score and a two touchdown lead for the men of Troy heading to the locker room.

Clayton (2-3, 0-1) received the ball to start the second half and marched down to the Trojan 38 yard line; however, the Comets would get no closer to the end zone as the Trojan defense stopped the Comets on a fourth down and three to truncate the drive.

On the ensuing possession, the Trojans began to salt the game away as Garner used an 11 play drive and Nyheim Hines added the punctuation on the scoring drive for a 21-0 Garner advantage.

The game's final score came from Hines again as the sophomore broke lose early in the fourth quarter for a 44-yard scamper and a 28-0.

Clayton would get no closer as the Trojans secured the 28-0 win and its first shutout since October 7, 2011 in a 55-0 victory over West Johnston.

Garner returns to Greater Neuse River play next week when they travel to Sasser Stadium to take on the East Wake Warriors. Kick-off is slated for 7:00

Garner soccer added another victory on Thursday night as the men of Troy downed Fuquay-Varina 1-0 at Trojan Stadium in a make up game from earlier this season.

Kenneth Perkinson pitched another shut out in goal and Marco Perez provided the offense as the Trojans improved to 4-1 on the season.

Garner returns to action on Monday night when they host Smithfield-Selma at 6:30 inside Trojan Stadium.

Additionally, the JV Trojans earned a 1-0 victory on Thursday night also over Fuquay-Varina. Garner will host SSS on Monday at 4:30.

JV Trojans fall to Clayton

Garner rallied from 14 points down but could not hold the lead as Clayton edged its conference rival on Thursday night at Comet Stadium, 26-21.

The JV Trojans (1-3, 0-1) found themselves down 14-0 early in the second quarter but came storming back with a pair of Tyreese Taylor one from six and the other for three yards to knot the score at 14 heading to the locker room for halftime.

Garner took the lead early in the third quarter on a 33-yard spurt from Taylor and after an Austin Marbrey extra point, Garner led 21-20.

However, that lead would be short lived as Clayton answered back with a quick score and a 26-21 lead after a two-point conversion failed.

But, the Trojans would get no closer as they fell to the Comets 26-21.

Coach Lee and his Trojans are back at home next Thursday at 6:30 when they welcome East Wake to Trojan Stadium.

Volleyball Sweeps Bulldogs

The varsity volleyball team earned its 40th consecutive conference victory on Thursday night at Trojan Coliseum blanking of Southeast Raleigh, three games to none.

Garner (10-2, 6-0) won the opening game of the match 25-9 before a 25-17 victory in game two and completing the sweep with a 25-15 game three triumph to truncate the match.

The lady Trojans had 32 kills on the night led once again by Kristen Powell with 14. Kelsey Bryan added six kills while Nyah Hines, Courtney Weathersbee, Sarah Pierce and Ka'asha Jefferies added three each.

Weathersbee also added six service aces while the team had 11 on the match for the easy victory for Coach Boyette's squad.

Garner returns to action on Monday afternoon at 5:30 when they travel to Fuquay-Varina to battle the Bengals.

Soccer Drops East Wake

Following a heartbreaking loss to Clayton earlier this week, the varsity soccer team bounced back on Thursday night as they earned a 3-0 road victory over East Wake.

Kenneth Perkinson pitched his third shut out of the season in goal. Meanwhile, the Garner (3-1, 1-1) got an offensive spark from three separate players.

Bryson White, Kody Kamphuis and Tom Dinka all scored for the Trojans as they even their conference record.

The men of Troy return to action on Monday night at 6:30 when they welcome Smithfield-Selma to Trojan Stadium for a 6:30 kick-off. The JV game will begin at 4:30.

Volleyball Bounces Back

Following a non-conference loss to Cary to start the week, the varsity volleyball team bounced back to pick up its 39th consecutive Greater Neuse River match, this time over Knightdale 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Garner (9-2, 5-0) took the opening game of the match 25-12 followed by a 25-8 victory and closed the match with a 25-15 win.

Kristen Powell had 15 of the Lady Trojans 30 kills on the match while Garner added 26 service aces in the match Powell led the team with seven followed by Courtney Weathersbee and Ka'asha Jefferies with six each.

The lady Trojans are back at home on Thursday night at 5:30 when they host Southeast Raleigh at Trojan Coliseum.

Additionally, the JV team earned another victory downing the Kinghts 25-21, 26-16 and 25-20. Coach Simering and his JV squad will return to action on Thursday at 4:30 against Southeast Raleigh.

Garner Golf Earns Victory

Coach Barnes and the Lady Trojan golf team earned its fourth win of the season on Tuesday afternoon at Wendell CC.

Nichole Ceyrolles was medalist of the match against the Greater Neuse River conference firing a 39, Lauren Ceyrolles added a 47, and Arianna Ceyrolles came in with a 49.

This is the Trojans 4th match win of the season.

Garner returns to action in another conference match next Tuesday, September 18 at Keith Hills.

Soccer Nipped By Clayton

The Garner varsity soccer squad dropped its first match of the season, 3-2 to the Clayton Comets on Monday night at Trojan Stadium.

Garner (2-1, 0-1) got a pair of goals from Kody Kamphuis and Luis Resendiz and held that lead until the Comets came storming back to make it 2-1 early in the second half.

With just over 33 minutes left Clayton tied the game and later took the one goal lead in the closing moments of the contest and earned the one goal, 3-2 victory.

Garner will look to bounce back from the loss when they return to action on Wednesday night at 6:30 when they travel to East Wake.

Trojans Gallop Past Middle Creek

Garner scored 31 unanswered points to erase a one-point, 21-20 deficit and gallop past Middle Creek on Friday night at Mustang Stadium, 46-29.

Middle Creek (3-1, 1-0) broke a 14-14 halftime score on its opening possession of the second half as they marched 64-yards and scored on a touchdown pass from David Salmon to Quinton Ray and the Mustangs took a 21-20 lead.

However, Middle Creek would cough up the football on its next drive and the Trojans would capitalize as Nyheim Hines scored from 16 yards out and after a failed two-point conversion, the Mustangs still had a 21-20 lead.

The Mustangs went three and out on its next drive and Garner (4-0) came right back and scored on Tyler Hinton's five yard rumble and the men of Troy took a 27-21 lead.

Middle Creek would get no close as they went three and out, again and was forced to punt the ball to Hines, who found a seem down the sideline for a 57-yard punt return for a score (his third of the season) and the Trojans were in control.

Garner added a couple more scores from Hines who finished the night with four total touchdown, three rushing and one on the punt return.

The Mustangs also added a late score for the final, 46-29 margin of victory.

Garner has now won nine of the 10 meetings against the Mustangs and will return home next Friday night to open Greater Neuse River play against the Clayton Comets, kick-off is slated for 7:00

Volleyball Pounces Wildcats

Garner's varsity volleyball team continued its torrid pace winning their sixth match in-a-row on Thursday night as the lady Trojans earned a 3-0 road sweep of West Johnston.

Garner (8-1, 4-0) began the match with a 25-17 victory in the opening game followed by a 25-11 win in the second and the match ended in the third game with a 25-19 Garner win.

Kristen Powell had 22 of Garner's 38 kills on the match. Sarah Price had five kills along with Kelsey Bryan and Ka'asha Jefferies with four kills, each.

Coach Boyette's squad will return to Trojan Coliseum on Monday afternoon at 5:30 for a non-conference match up with the Cary Imps. The JV match will begin at 4:30.

JV Trojans Fall to Middle Creek

Garner dropped it's second consecutive JV football game on Thursday night as they fell to Middle Creek 49-0 at Trojan Stadium.

The Trojans (1-2) surrendered 14 first quarter points and eventually trailed 35-0 heading into the locker room before the Mustangs capitalized and went on for the 49-0 victory. 

Garner returns to action next Thursday at 6:30 when they travel to Clayton to battle the Comets.

Coach Boyette and his varsity volleyball squad opened up their week of action on Tuesday evening with a three game sweep of Smithfield-Selma inside Trojan Coliseum.

Garner (7-1, 3-0) took the first game of the match 25-9 before earning a 25-13 victory in the second game and finally capping off the match with the Spartans earning a 25-11 win.

Kristen Powell, helped power the lady Trojans earning 25 kills as the team finished with 41 on the match. Garner also fired in 17 service aces including six by Elena Mast to help smash the Spartans.

The lady Trojans will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Benson to battle West Johnston with first serve slated for 5:30 and the JV game beginning the action at 4:30

Golf Picks up Victory

Lady Trojan golf picks up another conference match victory on Tuesday afternoon  at River Ridge Golf Course.

Nichole Ceyrolles is medalist with a 41, Lauren Ceyrolles followed with a 45, an Emily O'Neill came in with a 53.

This is the Trojans third match win of the early season. Coach Barnes and her squad will be back at home at River Ridge on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 when they host Fuquay-Varina.
