Volleyball Advances in Playoffs

After capturing the Greater Neuse River crown, the varsity volleyball team moved into the playoffs and managed to grind out a three games to one victory over Wilmington Laney High School on Saturday afternoon inside Trojan Coliseum.

Garner (22-3) took the opening game of the match 25-20 while Laney bounced back and took a 25-20 victory in the second game. However that would be all the Buccneers would get as the lady Trojans took the third game 25-17 before truncating the match with a 25-20 win the the fourth and decisive match.

Kristen Powell hammered 28 kills of Garner's 50 kills on the match. Kelsey Bryan also achieved double figure kills with 11. Courtney Weathersbee, Ka'asha Jefferies and Sarah Pierce all had three.

Additionally, Powell and Elena Mast both had a pair of service aces as Garner finished the match with seven. 

The victory for the lady Trojans sets a new school record with 22 wins as they advance to the second round of the playoffs on Tuesday night when they welcome the Ashley Eagles (17-5) to Trojan Coliseum. First serve for the match is set for 5:00.
