Garner did what they were suppose to do on Friday afternoon when they hosted Smithfield-Selma at Trojan Park, as they remained one game back of Harnett Central for the top spot in the Greater Neuse River Conference as the Lady Trojans downed SSS 11-1 in a five inning mercy rule affair.
The Lady Trojans wasted little time getting on the board with a pair of runs in their first at bat as the big hit of the inning was an RBI triple from Ashely Carroll who missed a home run by inches.
With the two run first, Garner never looked back, even after SSS got a run in the top of the second to cut the lead in half, the Lady Trojans continued their torrid offensive pace including a five run third inning to chase the SSS starter from the game.
Meanwhile, Ashley Carroll continued her outstanding day at the plate finishing a double shy of the cycle as she cranked a home run over the left center field wall which was more than enough for Christina Gower who mowed down the Spartan hitters as she picked up her 13th win of the season with an 11-1 win over SSS.
Garner (13-2) is back in action on Tuesday afternoon whey they travel to Southeast Raleigh for a 4:00 first pitch. The Lady Trojans are back at home on Wednesday night at 6:00 when they host long time rival, Cary at Trojan Field.
