Since North Garner and East Garner resumed their baseball series in 2005, North Garner had never lost to East Garner and on Thursday that trend continued, as the North Garner Trojans held on to win a wild one, 11-7 over East Garner at Trojan Park.
North got on the board first in the second inning as Nicholas Gallogly singled to left to plate two and give North a 2-0 lead. But, East stormed right back in the bottom half to cut the lead in half as North Garner starter, Brighton Hudson walked the bases loaded before walking Jonathan Rodriguez to plate the first East Garner run and after two complete it was 2-1 North Garner.
East Garner jumped on top for the first time in the game in the bottom of the third as the first two batters reached base and with one out, Michael Mason singled to load the bases for Ches Woodall who singled to plate the second run of the inning and make it 3-2 East Garner. The Trojans added another and after three it was 4-2 East.
That lead didn't last long as North Garner plated four runs in the top of the fourth inning to retake the lead on East Garner and relief pitcher, Jonathan Rodriguez. Gregory Stewart led off the inning for North Garner with a swinging bunt down the third base line and that sent Rodriguez off the mound but he made an errant throw to first allowing Stewart to reach third base. Stone Gulley was the next to hit and he laced a single to left to score Stewart and make it 4-3.
Trever Wiley was the next hitter up and after he walked, that brought Chance Corbin to the plate who flaired a single to left. After a Nicholas Gallogly walk, the bases were loaded for Caleb Norris who singled to plate two and give North a 6-4 lead.
East Garner would again retake the lead in the bottom of the frame with three runs. Jonathan Rodriquez led off the inning with a walk and then proceeded to steal both second and third before scoring on a throwing error. The big hit of the inning was a RBI triple from Jonathan Sierra and after four complete it was 7-6 East Garner.
That score remained the same until the sixth inning when North Garner scored, again. East Garner got the first two out with relative easy, but that's when the North Garner lead off man came to the plate and laced a triple down the left field line. He scored one batter later on a pass ball to tie the score at seven.
North Garner loaded the bases on walks and the bases were cleared by Stone Gulley who roped a three run double to left field which put the game away. North would add an insurance run in the seventh, and East would get no closer as the final score was 11-7 North Garner.
North Garner improves to 5-1 on the year while East Garner falls to 2-3 on the season.
