Paige Dugal ('08) and Kaitlin Wescoe ('07) and the Wolfpack soccer team defeated Belmont-Abbey 2-0 game with Dugal registering her seventh collegiate goal. The Pack also tied Davidson 1-1 to finish up their spring season. They are looking forward to Senior Megan Proper ('09) joining them in the fall!
Dugal was named to the 2009 ACC All-Academic Team early this year.
Jeremy Hall ('07) pitched 2 innings in relief, no runs one walk, one strikeout as the Bulldogs of UNCA fell to 10th ranked Florida State 11-10 in 11 innings. When Hall came in the game, the Bulldogs were down by a run. They would tie the game for Hall as he was able to hold the 'Noles at a tie during his out. Jeremy has signed to play for the Junction City Generals (Junction City, KS) of the Central Plains League this summer.
Sophomore wrestler Tyler Maher has been named Sophomore All-American. Tyler finished 4th in his weight class in the Sophomore Nationals Wrestling Championship, sponsored by National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) and Navy. The event was April 1-3 at Virginia Beach. The GNRC champion in the heavyweight division, Maher finished the year 29-4 record for the season and ranked #7 in NC. Congratulations Tyler!!
Senior DaMetrius Upchurch has been selected to play in the annual North Carolina Coaches Association's East-West All-Star basketball game this July in Greensboro. Upchurch led the Trojans to first place in the GNRC basketball standings at 13-1, and was named the GNRC Player of the Year. Great job DaMetrius!!
Brandon Banks ('06) is in spring drills after his impressive 2008 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. 2009 will be his first under legendary coach Bill Snyder who returns to the helm of Kansas State. The Topeka Journal captures Snyder's first impression of the fastest man in DI football!
Several Trojans participated in Opening Day of the Garner Area Youth Sports League (GAYSL) on April 4th. Current Trojans on hand who are alumni of the league: Connor Torruella, CJ Schmitt and Christie Wright as well as former Trojans and current Peace College Pacers: Amanda Beach ('08) and Ashleigh Harris, ('07) were on hand to support the league's new season. Good job past, current and future Trojans!!!
Congratulations William “Bill” F. Hamlin Jr., president and chief executive officer of The Hamlin Companies, based in Garner, N.C. on being selected to the North Carolina State University College of Management Board of Advisors. Mr. Hamlin and his company are long time supporters of Garner Magnet High School.
Condolences to the family of Charles W. Tolley ('50) who passed away April 8th. Mr. Tolley was a 1950 graduate of Garner High School. He worked across the United States as a salesman and then photographer before coming back to Garner in 1981 and opening Vaden Studios where he worked until his retirement.
Matt Wescoe and his CASL Chelsea Academy team completed a 4-0 trip to the Chelsea FC Academy in London England. They have won all four games, with Wescoe registering two goals and an assist. They attended the EPL match Watford vs. Southhampton and watched the Chelsea vs. Liverpool match last night at Frankies at Stamford Bridge. (VIP attendance only from the Chelsea guest list to get in). CASL was able to do some sight-seeing in London on Sunday (and Matt's birthday!) after their last match and then attended the Reading vs. Sheffield European Premiere League match. Great job Matt (and happy birthday!!!)
Amanda Beach ('08) has two doubles and 3 RBI in Peace's doubleheader split with Meredith College. Beach was selected USA South Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week earlier this season
Ashleigh Harris ('07) banged her first homer of the season in the Pacers 7-1 win over NC Central. Harris goes 2-for-3. The Pacers are 16-16 on the season.
Freshman Tavis Mitchell is the videographer for the Capital City Bulls AAU 13-14U basketball team. The Bulls won the 2009 BATTLE ON TOBACCO ROAD tournament in Greensboro April 5th and Tavis videotaped all games including the championship game. Great work Tavis!!
David West ('98) matches his career high with 40 points in the Hornets 111-110 win over Sacramento. West is averaging 20.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game this season. West was selected for his second consecutive NBA All-Star team. David is a primary sponsor of the Garner Road YMCA AAU basketball team.
Taylor Williams, a rising freshmen who will be attending GMHS, was awarded the gold medal on vault at the NC State USAG Level 7 Gymnastic Meet in Winston-Salem, NC on March 28, 2009. She scored a near perfect score with a 9.55. This was the fourth year that Taylor has taken first on vault. Taylor also took third on floor with a 9.275 and finished the championship meet by placing 6th All-Around with a combined score of 35.225. Taylor trains at Artistic Gymnastics on Tryon Road in Garner and is coached by Karen Hughes and Adina Stock. Great job Taylor!!
Congratulations to the GMHS Symphonic Band after their performance at Central District Concert Band Festival. The band finished with an overall rating of superior in Grade 5 music. This is the second superior rating for the band in the last three years. Congratulations to Mr. Caldwell and the band students for a superior job!!
Booker Nunley ('08) sweeps the 110 and 400 hurdles in the USC Weems Baskin Relays for the Gamecocks. Nunley's time in the 110 qualifies him for the NCAA Regional Championships to be held in Greensboro May 29th. Nunley finished 6th in the 60-meter hurdles in the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The former Junior Olympic silver medalist clocked a time of 7.92 seconds.
Tim Lovick ('06) places 11th in the long jump at the Raleigh Relays for St. Augustine March 28th. Lovick finished 14th in the 110-meter hurdles. Earlier this season, Tim picked up a second in the 110-meter hurdles for St. Augustine in the CCU Shamrock Invitational March 19th. The former NCHSAA 4A high jump champion logged a 14.71 runner up finish.
Junior Jacob Baker is named Trojan Athlete of the Week by The Garner News for March 30th. Jacob is 2-1 with 19k's in 17 innings pitched for Coach Goffena's varsity Trojans. Congrats Jake!!
Junior Cody Woodall coached his Garner Optimist League team to a perfect season and league championship. The ABA Division Nuggets went 10-0.

Morgan Barbour ('08) and the NC State softball team open their ACC season with a DH sweep of Virginia. The Pack takes both games Saturday, 3-2 and 9-1, to go to 13-9 on the season.

Jamila (Amber) Johnson ('06) finishes the season with a 10.1 scoring average leading the Barton Lady Bulldogs in offensive rebounds and second in assists. Barton finishes the season 22-6, winning the regular season Carolinas Conference title.

Connor Torruella leads the CASL U-16 Garner Predators to the Gold Division title of the Beast of the East Soccer Tournament in Greenville on Feb. 21-22. Torruella is named the team MVP. The Predators captured the 2008 High School Division title of the Greensboro Challenge Clash.
Congratulations to Mighty Trojan Marching Band member Dylan Castora who has been selected for the 2009 NC All State Honors Band. Representing GMHS, Dylan was selected for the April 25th performance on trumpet player from band members thoughout the state this past weekend and was selected. Congratulations Dylan!
Jeff Hart ('80) and his new band The KinKsmen debuted Saturday, March 14th at Bull McCabe's Irish Pub. Hart is Garner's own reknown musician, with multiple credits with local bands The Hanks, The Ruins and Young Neil and The Damage Done. Jill Hatcher Johnson ('06) and her cheerleading squad from North Georgia College & State University, finished 1st runner up in the Peach Belt Conference Cheerleading Championship the weekend of March 7th. The team finished fourth in the College Co-Ed division at the 2009 Cheersport National Cheerleading and Dance Competition in Atlanta on Feb. 14-15.
Darrin Tew ('06) gets the win against #10-ranked North Georgia 3-1. Tew strikes out eight allowing just one run in six innings of work. Tew is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 20 innings of work with 21 K's. Lander is now 15-5 and ranked #19 in the NCAA Division II national rankings conducted by Collegiate Baseball Magazine.
Aston Anglin-Stone was named the Trojan Athlete of the Week by the Garner News for the week of March 2nd. The reigning state indoor shot put champ, Anglin-Stone is preparing for the spring track season. Congratulations Aston!!!

Congratulations to Trey Scarborough, Cody Wilson, and Dylan Castora selected for the Triangle Brass Band ensemble. They performed at Meymandi Concert Hall Sunday Feb. 8th and were directed by our esteem GMHS Director Mr. Caldwell. Scarborough and Castora were selected first chair solo cornet and Wilson first chair percussionist. Congratulations to Mr. Caldwell and his star performers!!
Junior Blake Lowry ('06) expects to contribute as both a solid option at first base and as a powerful addition at designated hitter for the Campbell Camels. Lowry appeared in eight games as a sophomore with twelve at-bats. Campbell opens their season Friday, Feb. 20th with a home DH against NC A&T.
Trojan alums, Chris Culliver ('07), Cedric Snead ('07) and Reggie Bowens ('08) and their USC Gamecocks will be coming home to face the NC State Wolfpack Thursday, September 3 in a game to be televised by ESPN. The ACC announced their 2009 schedule Feb. 12th.

Dr. Dorsey Edmundson ('83) is the psychological program manager at Caledonia Correctional Institute in Tillery, NC. Edmundson oversees the mental health programs for five NC prisons and has completed his first book, titled "The Mirror of Christ" released Jan.20th (order online).

Congratulations to the EGMMS cheerleaders who placed 2nd in the Champion All School Cheer and Dance competition at Broughton High School on Dec. 10. The girls also brought home the “Award of Excellence” for the Middle School Division.
