Garner scored nine runs in the fifth inning of Monday night's contest with Harnett Central to bust open a one all tie as they cruised to an 11-1 six inning victory at Trojan Park.
The Trojans (11-8, 6-3) came to the plate in the fifth with the score tied but were able to break the tie as Harnett Central starter Blake Nance walked five guy in the inning. However, the big hit came from Tyler Marshburn, who with the bases loaded lauched a ball over the wall in left centerfield for his second Grand Slam of the year and put the game away for the Trojans as they took a 10-1 lead and never looked back.
Harnett Central (3-13, 3-6) scored their one run of the contest in the first inning off Trojan starter Brighton Hudson (W, 4-0) as the left-hander issued a two-out free pass followed two hitters later by a Cole Hart double to give Central a short lived 1-0 lead.
Garner tied the game in their half of the third as Carrington Austin doubled home Marshburn to tie the score.
The Trojans return to action on Tuesday night when they welcome Smithfield-Selma to Trojan Park with first pitch set for 7:00.
**The JV team picked up a 2-1 win over Harnett Central on Monday. They will also host SSS on Tuesday at Trojan Park. First pitch is slated for 4:00**
