The Varsity Softball team had just one conference loss coming into play Tuesday night and needed a win over Harnett Central to force a one game playoff tomorrow night to decide the number one seed in the State Playoffs next week. Garner did just that as they found a way to pull out a 4-3 win on Senior Night.
Each team left runners in scoring position in the first two innings and Garner finally struck first with three runs in the third. With two outs, Garner just had a runner picked off third base for the second out of the inning. That's when, with two on base, Kimmie Stewart laced a two-run double to left center to break the scoreless tie. After a Maddy Stewart single, Halie Warner lined a single back up the box to plate to score a run and give Garner a 3-0 lead.
Harnett Central rallied to score three runs in the top of the fifth to tie the score at three all. But, it didn't take the Lady Trojans long to respond as they came back with a run in the bottom half.
With one out, Kimmie Stewart was hit by the pitch and after being lifted for a courtesy runner, Maddy Stewart singled and after a two-out walk to Meghan Strickland loaded the bases, Freshman pitcher, Christina Gower looped a single over the first basemen's head to score courtesy runner, Shea Barbour and give Garner a 4-3 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Harnett Central got the tying run to second base, but back to back fly outs to left, gave Garner a 4-3 win.
With the win, Garner will play Harnett Central on Wednesday night at 7:00, the game will be played AT WEST JOHNSTON! With the winner getting the number one seed in the playoffs.
