Garner (19-2) took a one-run lead in the second when Courtney Weathersbee drove home Kirkland who had reached earlier in the inning.

Trojans Fall to Rose; Season Ends

WEB CAST.

Greenville Rose scored six runs in their first two at bats on Friday night and never looked back as the Rampants advanced to the second round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4-A Playoffs with a 9-2 win over Garner at Trojan Park on Friday night.

Rose (19-5) led by a pair of runs as they came to the plate in the second and added to their lead against Trojan right Tyler Marshburn (L, 3-5). After the first two reached for Rose, Chris Hall and Gray Dixon delivered back-to-back RBI singles and after a sacrifice fly later in the frame, Rose led 6-0.

Garner (15-10) trailed 7-0 before they scored their only two runs of the game in the fourth. With two outs, Carrington Austin and Vince Jefferies both reached ahead of Skyler Strickland who singled to bring home Austin and on a throwing error, Jefferies also scored to make it 7-2.

That would be as close as the Trojans would get as Rose scored single runs in the fifth and seventh to go up 9-2. Which proved to be more than enough for Rampant pitcher Jarrett Ozmick who worked a complete game scattering four hits allowing just two runs while walking four and striking out seven.

The Trojan Family would like to say thank you to the class of 2012 for making this such a special season.

Softball Moves On

Garner and New Hanover had a classic battle on Friday night at Trojan Field, but in the end, it was the Trojans who had the last swings and moved on in the 4-A Softball playoffs.

With the game tied at three in eighth, Amber Kirkland came to the dish and launched a home run to put the Lady Trojans ahead for good as Lauren Marbery finished off the Wildcats for the 4-3 Garner victory.

Garner will be back at home on Tuesday night in the playoffs against a opponent that is TBA.

Trojans Find a Way to Down Central

WEB CAST.

The Trojans then loaded the bases ahead of Skyler Strickland who singled home a pair for the 8-6 Trojan advantage.

Harnettt Central (3-18, 3-11) had a shot to tie the game in their half of the seventh and had the tying run at first base when Vince Jefferies, robbed John Costa of what was a game-winning home run to secure the victory for Brighton Hudson (5-0) and the Trojans.

After adding a single run in the second, third and fourth, the Trojans were sitting pretty when on the other end, Garner starter, Scotty McCreery (W, 3-0), was keeping Southeast Raleigh (0-17, 0-13) off balance as he struck out a career high eight batters.

Meanwhile, Garner added three runs in the fifth on an RBI double from Aquail Sanders along with a pinch hit RBI base hit from Carrington Austin and Robert Doak grounded out to drive home the final run of the frame.

Trojans Joust Knights; Remain in Second

WEB CAST.
Garner and Knightdale entered play on Tuesday night tied for second place and both teams looking to remain in the drivers seat for a home playoff spot and after a great night by both pitching staffs, the Trojan prevailed 2-0.

With the game scoreless in the fourth inning, Trojan starter Brighton Hudson (W, 5-0) worked himself into and out of trouble allowing a single and double to the first two Knightdale (12-9, 7-5) hitters which put runners and second and third with no outs. However, the Knights couldn't score as Hudson educed a line out, and a pair of ground outs to escape the inning without any damage done.

Garner (13-9, 8-4) took that momentum they gained in the top of the inning and carry it to the bottom half as they scored a pair of runs. With one man out, Jake Faucette singled to right and two hitters later, Vince Jefferies triple him home to make it 1-0. Aquail Sanders followed with a double to plate Jefferies and make it 2-0 Trojans.

The Knights had a shot in the seventh as the first two men reached against Jake Ellington. Tyler Marshburn (S, 1) then came into pitch and retired the next three men to end the ball game and give the Trojans a 2-0 victory.

Garner returns home on Friday night at 7:00 when they welcome the Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs to Trojan Park for Senior Night. The Trojans will hand the ball to senior right-hander Scotty McCreery while the Bulldogs have yet to name their starter.

Reed Signs With Mount Olive

Dominique Reed inked his name on a National Letter of Intent on Friday morning as he signed to play basketball with Mount Olive of the Conference Carolians in 2012.

Reed, who led the Trojans to the sectional finals the last three seasons was the work house inside for the men of Troy and as a result the 6-9 senior garnished All-Conference honors and was tabbed as the Greater Neuse River Player of the Year in addition to being named District Five Player of the Year by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association and was also second team All-State as named by the same organization.

Averaging 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per contest during the 2011-2012 season, Reed was chosen to participate in the North Carolina East/West All-Star this July in the Greensboro Coliseum.

Dominique plans to major in accounting while enrolled at Mount Olive where fittingly, their mascot is also a Trojan.

Congratulations to Dominique Reed on an outstanding career at Garner High School and we look forward to watching you at the next level.

Trojans Fall to Wildcats

WEB CAST.

West Johnston broke a two-all tie with a three-run sixth inning to increase their lead in the Greater Neuse River Conference as they defeated the Garner Trojans 5-2 in Benson on Friday night.

The Wildcats (15-3, 9-2) broke the tie on a one out double from Tripp Atkinson followed three hitters later by Trey Lee who singled in the final run of the inning off Trojan starter Tyler Marshburn (L, 3-4) as West took the 5-2 lead.

Garner (12-9, 7-4) took the lead in the second inning when Skyler Strickland scored on a Alec Hulmes hit to the outfield to make it 2-1 Trojans. However, the Wildcats tied the score in the fourth when Adam Morris stole third and came in to score on a throwing error on the Trojan catcher, Carrington Austin.

The Trojans return to action on Tuesday night at 7:00 when they host Knightdale at Trojan Park.

**The JV Baseball team downed West Johnston 4-2 on Friday night. They will also host Knightdale on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 at Trojan Park.**

Softball Comes up with HUGE Win

Coach Barbour and his Lady Trojans didn't have a whole lot of offense on Friday night at West Johnston, but they had enough as they edged the Wildcats 1-0 to sweep the season series with the 'Cats.

Still scoreless in the fourth, Amber Kirkland drove a fly ball into the outfield which plated Cheyenne Champion and gave Garner a 1-0 lead.

That was plenty of run support for Lauren Marbery who also got some great defense behind her as Shea Barbour made a diving grab in the outfield to rob the Wildcats of extra bases and keep the game in the favor of the lady Trojans.

West tried to push across a run in the seventh but Courtney Barbour gunned down the runner trying to steal second and give the Trojans the 1-0 victory.

Garner returns home on Tuesday night at 7:00 when they welcome Knightdale to Trojan Field. The JV team (who lost to West 11-1) will also take on Knightdale at 5:00

Soccer Blanks Knightdale

Coach Corsbie and his varsity soccer program blanked Knightdale 3-0 last night to continue their hopes at a conference championship alive.

Lady Trojan goals were scored by Gabi Dugal, Micahela Kymer and Lauren Pierce. Assisting on the goals were Michaela Wycoff, and a pair of assists from Dugal.
